Considering the time that you have been using Photoshop I'm really impressed with the work that you're doing and I think you'll make a pro Photoshopper. Great cut out here for the time you've been using Photoshop. THe white haze is a result of the feathering which is hard to get rid of, I think you can go Layer > Matte > Defringe, and enter something like 2 pixels or something, Just play about and have fun.
