Joyeuse is a proud Pokemon. He's known Mari since she was a baby. His life was a regular one, the Ace Pokemon of Mari's father during their time in the Gym Circuit. Joyeuse was one of the six Pokemon who, along with Mari's Father, was taken from the Kalos of present day back to Hisui. It ended in a confrontation between Joyeuse and a certain Typholsion, Chiharu, and the group's eventual acceptance as a ward of the Pearl Clan.

Eventually his trainer married into the clan, and within a year was the Father of a young girl. Joyeuse became protective of Mari from the moment he was allowed to meet her. For eighteen years their lives went on, until rather recently. An incident far from the Pearl Clan camp led to the demise of Joyeuse's trainer and his wife, leaving only Mari, Ena, Joyeuse and Chiharu to return home.
