Description
A Demon Hunter has gotta know when to put aside bravado and be prudent.
In this case I killed a dozen raving mad cultists, grabbed the Baron's daughter off the altar, and got the hell out fast.
Now we had a major Fallen One on our tail, and they don't quit. Ever.
The woods were burning down around us, and my sword arm was pretty near useless' due to a lucky crossbowshot from one of those robed maniacs.
Hiding out till the relative safety of the morning light seemed like a good plan.
As long as I could stay awake, and somewhat focused, my wards would keep us hidden, and safe from the fire raging all around us, here in our little hollow.
The girl was being nice and quiet, huddled in the corner. Shock and the fear had finally been too much for her, and she was shutting down mentally.
There was nothing to be done about that for now.
The best thing for her at this point would be sleep.
I wasn't in any great shape myself.
Loss of blood and exhaustion, along with the energy required to keep the wards intact, were sapping my remaining reserves of strength.
I held an angel's sword in my hand, but what good would it do me if I couldn't lift it?
With at least four hours till daylight, I wasn't feeling too optimistic about our chances.
