Many many hours of work. Very painstaking. First Spacey-ish pic by me ever. 100% science. Made via an LCD screen so the brightness may be off, adjust liberally if you wish to compensate. Entry for =Nameless-Designer 's contest.

Points on random stuff about this image. Firstly, this tree is not made out of wood. That's a gimme. It couldn't exist simultaneously on two different planets if it were made out of wood; the stress would be too great. Believe me, the physics of this are incredible. What is it made out of? Guess. You'll never get it right. Muahaha. Second, the principal planet, the one closest on which the glowing man stands, is many times larger than the others, and it is this world the others orbit around. The center planet on which the tree is primarily visible, here, orbits the first geosynchronously. That's the only reason the tree was able to grow between the two planets. It'll never make it to the third because the third planet, really more of a moon, has a less hospital orbit and will not be caught. Third, the center planet is inhabited, the other two are not. The bottom planet is simply too large, with gravity to match, to support human-like life. The top is obviously without atmosphere. The fact that the center planet is inhabited is important, because if you look in the top left corner, you will see glowy blue stuff. This blue stuff is material that is to be used by the inhabitants of the planet in construction of a Dyson Swarm. It is quite a remarkable undertaking. But why do all this? And what's the tree for? They all have their reasons.

This particular image is a piece of concept art. I intend to pursue the story further, if only because it's fun to think about the fantastic and nigh impossible physics of it.

I originally intended to create this all from scratch, but as I was browsing through things to use for reference, I found some stocks and ended up using them in the actual image. Only two, though. Well, three, if you count the photograph of the pine cones, pine branch, mountains and lake; these are an image that my mother had taken of a reservoir somewhere, which I stole and used. Then there's the tree itself, which is a 3d stock I yoinked from =IWS-stock 's gallery, and then the roots on which the glowing man stands are clipped off of a different tree stock from =Shoofly-Stock .
