Description
POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD!!! MAKE SURE YOU PLAY THE UNDERTALE GAME FOR YOURSELF BEFORE READING ON!( Man I love this game to death! It was only a matter of time until I made an OC for Undertale >u> Though this one's a little different because Rhyder's story takes place before the monsters were sealed underground, while the war between humans and monsters is still going on. Just thought it would be kind of fun to have a character placed during the time monsters still roamed free on the surface. So without further ado, let's get onto the info! )
Name: Rhyder
Age: 23
Height: 5' 4"
Species: Ragdoll/dummy
Backstory
Surprisingly, Rhyder isn't actually a monster at all. She's a human.... or, at least she was once. During the war, there was only one mission for a human. Destroy monsters. And as a warrior, Rhyder would do anything to protect her village. "They had to destroy the monsters before they destroyed us." At least, that's what she was told all her life. But one day on a routine patrol, she came across a monster that would unexpectedly change her life forever. A little ghost. Something that at first glance didn't seem would be a problem. But as she prepared to attack, the monster did something that she never expected..... nothing. It didn't fight back. Didn't beg for mercy. It didn't seem bothered by her presence at all. In fact upon noticing her, all the little ghost said was, "Oh.... am I in your way? Sorry.......
A monster that wouldn't fight? Ryder didn't know what to do. She'd never really come across that before. So in a moment of utter confusion, all she could do was ask the ghost's name. In a nervous and awkward manner, the little ghost eventually replies with, "Napstablook." ( I normally don't incorporate canon characters directly into my OCs backstories, but I love that little ghost too much and couldn't help myself
Personality
As opposed to her old, harden warrior attitude Rhyder is now an incredibly cheerful and bubbly type of person. Even when fighting she has a trickster and playful like spirit, as if it were nothing more than a game. She hardly takes anything seriously anymore. But if you were to even DARE try to hurt her friends or any other monster for that matter, well, that hammer isn't just for show.
Extra Info
- Napstablook is the only one who knows that Rhyder's really a human and they've decided to keep that secret amongst themselves. Even at times Rhyder herself forgets about ever being human.
- The glowing "heart" is Rhyder's soul. While in the body of a dummy she's almost completely invincible, being able to repair herself easily when needed with just a needle and thread. However, if she were to get struck where her soul lies, she would die almost instantly.
- While a lot of physical attacks don't do much damage to her, punches and blows just being absorbed by her cotton and cloth body, magic attacks do a great deal of damage.
- Rhyder keeps rocks sewn inside her hands to deliver harder punches when fighting.
- Her left "eye" is actually just a hole in the cloth.
- She can see out of her button eye too. She can even take it off, leave it somewhere and still be able to see what her button eye sees.
- Rhyder's "mouth" is a zipper and automatically zips open and shut when she talks.
- The scarf she wears was given to her by Napstablook and she ALWAYS wears.
- When making the dummy, Napstablook ran out of material for her "hair" and left arm so that's why the left side of her head isn't covered and why her left arm is just a string.
- Even though she has the body of a rag doll, she's actually a LOT stronger than she looks. Obvious by the giant hammer that she likes to wield. Even so, her strength does have limits as she could easily tear the seams in her body if she tried to lift more than she's capable of. Which is why she wears lighter weight armor as well. In fact she wouldn't wear armor at all when fighting if it weren't for the fact that she wants to protect against the possibility of someone striking her soul.
- With her left arm being just a string it almost has no limit as to how far she can stretch it out. But sometimes if she lets out too much of the yarn string, she can easily get snagged on objects or even tangled up in her own arm. Which she's done. A lot.

Okay...this is surprisingly original for an Undertale OC. About half the stuff I see is skeletons, half of the rest is goats, and it's only the rest that have any real potential for originality. You've done an incredible job here, and while I see a lot of allusions to the Mad Dummy, it's original enough that I don't have a problem with that.
Five stars, HuggableRogue. Five stars.

Wow, thank you! That is quite the compliment I try to be as original as I can with my characters but still have them by able to fit in with the fandom they were created for. And the Mad Dummy was definitely an inspiration for her
I liked the idea how the ghosts of Undertale could inhabit different items and use them as sort of their "body" and thought it would be interesting if that ability was used in order to save a soul, in this case a human soul

That is pretty interesting.
Speaking of fitting in with the fandom, I recently learned that there are a lot of different opinions on how Undertale works. So my idea was to go through the game and learn what we know and what we don't know, in order to once and for all clarify what's opinion and what's fact. To do this, I started to write a series of essays called Undertale Explained. I've only finished one, but will you do me a favor and look over it to make sure it's correct? I strive for accuracy at all times.

Alrighty, I finished reading through it and let me start off by saying that it was simply fantastic! Anybody unfamiliar with the full story of Undertale will definitely find that as an extremely helpful guide. There was just one tiny little section that needed a little tweak. In the part about when you mention Asriel returning Chara's body back the village, you stated that,
"But as soon as he got to a populated area, some human hunters spotted Asriel and decided to attack him. No one really knows why -- perhaps they thought he was a game animal, or perhaps they knew of his power and race and were afraid."
Actually, when you are approaching Asgore's castle and all of the monsters are giving you the background story of their tale in the underground, three Woshuas will tell you that,
"Asriel reached the center of the village. There, he found a bed of golden flowers. He carried the human onto it."
Three Shyrens will then explain what happened next by saying,
"Suddenly, screams rang out. The villager's saw Asriel holding the human's body. They thought he had killed the child."
So basically the humans attacked Asriel based on the misunderstanding that he had killed Chara and were seeking revenge and justice for the supposed "murdered" child.
But other than that I found everything to be perfectly in line and accurate, awesome job!

Very nice OC idea. The drawing looks neat and well in theme with Undertale (in my opinion). There is that certain feel about it that makes me feel like it could fit into the Undertale universe.
Btw, I am running an Undertale quest thread and I would like to ask for your permission to use the image and some of your character concept for it in it.
You may of course refuse and thus I will of course not use your work (since it is an OC concept I feel like I have to ask).
I will be honest. If you approve I would be adding/altering the backstory slightly in the setting I am running, but surprisingly little since 99% of it fits into the concept idea I got for her when I first saw your drawing.
I know how irritating it is to let other people tamper with your ideas without your consent which is why I am asking.
Edit. I can of course disclose to you what chances I would be planning to make through notes/deviantart mail
