Moonshine Running race
What is moonshine Running?
Before Prohibition, while distillers were gathering in secret locations throughout rural areas in the south, brewing up homemade spirits to sell under the radar and away from alcohol taxes and bans. The drinks were made under the light of the moon, in hopes that no one would detect smoke rising from the stills and ultimately bust the operation—a practice that earned the booze its name “moonshine.”
Moonshining dates back to the 1700s, when officials imposed taxes on liquor sales. Farmers and immigrants throughout the south took to making their own batches to sell for extra money, tax free, to counteract the effects of extreme poverty in the region. And with the introduction of Prohibition, production skyrocketed, creating a thriving black market business for secretly distilled hooch.
Each hidden distillery needed to use runners—drivers in understated or otherwise ordinary-looking cars who could smuggle moonshine from the stills to thirsty customers across the region. On the outside, the cars looked “stock,” normal enough to avoid attention. But inside, both the mechanics of the cars and the drivers behind the wheel were far from ordinary. The vehicles were outfitted with heavy-duty shocks and springs, safeguarding the jars containing the hooch from breaking on bumpy mountain roads. The seats in the back were usually removed so more booze could fit. And high-powered engines gave the cars extra speed to outrun any cops and tax agents along the route.
As for the drivers, they knew every path in the area like the backs of their hands, able to outpace those in pursuit, even turning off headlights and still successfully navigating. They became known for their high-speed reckless driving—coining maneuvers like the bootleg turn, in which the drivers would quickly turn the car around in a controlled skid, either to elude the cops chasing them or to play a game of chicken with them, driving head-on at full speed until they abruptly changed course. When the runners weren’t smuggling alcohol, many spent their free time racing other runners for bragging rights.
From the 1930s on, once Prohibition had ended, demand for bootlegged alcohol waned and the runners found themselves with souped-up cars yet out of work—though they continued to take part in organized races.
What does this have to do with horses and Racing?
This is the fun part! Its like a more intense game of capture the flag or cops and robbers! There will be a team of horses and riders that are "Runners" and a team of horses and riders that are "The Law." You can decide to be on either team! The goal is to race along a predefined trail that the organizer of the event, Pine Creek's owner, has put up! Runner's will get a 5 minute head start but The Law is hidden at random intervals on the trail. Each of the runners will be equipped with a saddle bag that has a Styrofoam cooler on each side with Moonshine carefully packed away so as not to break.
The runners will also have a belt with 10 plastic flags on them that The Law must grab to earn a point. The runners must then follow the trail and try to get to the finish line before the Law steals all of their flags! There will be different color flags that are worth different amounts of points. There will be 2 flags of the following colors; Blue flags are worth 1 point, Green flags are worth 1 point, Yellow flags are worth 5 points, and Purple flags are worth 5 points. There will be 1 flag of the following colors; Red flags will be worth 20 points and Orange flags will be worth 10 points.
* The number of flags you have at the end will be RNG'd when you submit your entry!
The Runners and The Law will both have their own separate prizes!
The Runner that gets to the end with the most flags will win the outlaw reward!
This includes
1 Simple Headshot of the winning horse
1 Custom Trophy for this event
The Law that gets to the end with the most flags will win the Lawman reward!
This includes
1 Simple Headshot of the winning horse
1 Custom Trophy for this event
I personally will not be entering but I do have a few pre-made teams for you to draw if there is no one you'd like to collaborate with!

Day 2! [Saturday]
Dressage
Takes place in the lower outdoor arena at 9am.
The weather is mildly humid and there are several puffy clouds in the sky.
Any level is acceptable, and arena size can be adjusted. Please match tack to level executed (no double bridles on beginner horse). Your animal's handler should be formally dressed [example; they can wear solid color jodhpurs, tall boots and a riding jacket]
Show Jumping
Takes place in the lower Outdoor arena at 12pm.
The weather is mildly humid and clouds have formed, giving the day goers a nice shade
Jump height can be adjusted to match horse and rider training. Helmet must be worn. You may create your own jumps for this. Correct jumping tack must be worn and your animal's handler should be formally dressed [example; they can wear solid color jodhpurs, tall boots and a riding jacket]
Cross CountryTakes place along the lush country side of Pine Creek's property at 2pm.
The weather is mildly humid and clouds have formed, giving the day goers a nice shade
The cross-country course is approximately two and three quarter miles long, comprising some twenty-four fixed and solid obstacles. Obstacles are built to look "natural" (out of logs, for instance), however odd materials and decorations are added to test the horse's bravery. Obstacles can include all those that might be found if riding across the countryside, including water, trees, logs, ditches, and banks. Rider must wear a helmet and Cross country vest for protection.
Evening
Working EquitationBegins at 3PM and runs until 9PM
The weather is humid and clouds have formed as the sun sets over PC's acreage.
The purpose of Working Equitation
The discipline of WE was created mainly to preserve and honor the European traditional country riding historically used at farms and in fieldwork. This, along with the preservation of the horses used and each country’s traditional tack and riding costumes, gives international competitions a somewhat cultural aspects – traditional tack and riding clothing from each present country can be seen. WE promotes good horsemanship and is sometimes described as “functional dressage” as the main aim is to have a functional horse. The combination of flat-work and “natural” obstacles tests the quality of the training, not only the control over the horse and the obedience, but also the collaboration and trust between horse and rider.
Who can do Working EquitationAs the main aims of training in WE are to have a functional horse and to demonstrate a good relationship between horse and rider, all can do it. And all can also benefit from it and use it to test the quality of their training. From our experience it is a great deal of fun but it is also much harder than it looks. The discipline is open to all breeds including ponies and there is no need for a special type of horse to start training or compete in WE.
General InfoClothing and tack must consist of your desired country with rules followed to a T- WE Guidelines I have linked real world guidelines that I will be following for judging. **Special bits/Pieces of Tack needed to control the horse will NOT have points docked, just slip it in the description with the tack and apparel style** and if your horse has any vices [Ie- Kicks] be sure to add the corresponding tail ribbon
If the artist wishes to draw their horse and rider pair in side saddle, an extra 5 points will be given to each entry due to the complexity of riding side saddle.
At this trial, horses are to be ridden with one hand, generally the left, leaving the right hand free to “work with”.
Male and female riders are both allowed in PC's first WE class, but females must be dressed in similar attire as the males, in addtion to a STRONG sports bra such as Enell [To prevent the dreaded "Dressage Equitation" bounce].
Dressage trial
The Dressage trial takes place on a sectioned off 20 x 40 meter course inside the large upper arena and is executed very similarly to ordinary dressage competitions and the exercises are judged on a scale from 0 to 10. The exercises are carried out in a specific order and the difficulty of the exercises rises with the level. As the Dressage trial in WE has the purpose of showing “working dressage” the emphasis lies at the working gaits, walk and canter, but trot is now seen at most levels in most nations and also at international competitions. The basic aim of the dressage test is to show a relaxed, confident and obedient horse. The horse should stay in good contact with the rider and be calm but yet forward. * Done in the tack you will be using in the Ease of Handling Trial
In some countries this is also referred to as the Manageability or Technique trial. This Trial will take place in the large lower arena. In this trial the horse and rider encounter and have to overcome different obstacles that resemble things or situations that might be encountered in field work. Examples of obstacles that normally occur are bridge, opening and closing gate, a small jump, slalom and situations that require rein-back. This trial is ridden in walk and canter with the exception for lower levels. Like the Dressage trial it is judged by performance on a scale from 0 to 10 for each obstacle. The judges look at the way the obstacles are overcome, especially in terms of attitude, confidence and how naturally the obstacles are approached and executed. The riding between the obstacles, the chosen lines and the transitions are also judged.
Speed trialThe Speed trial uses the same obstacles as the Ease of Handling but it is not judged, instead it is a race against the clock. The trial tests the rider’s coordination and the ability to anticipate, along with the attention, speed and skills of the horse. No attention is given to gait or style of riding. If any obstacle is not overcome correctly time penalties are given. Each entry will receive an RNG'd time with each entry between 2 and 8 minutes.

A few questions:
1. How many horses can we enter ?
2. Do we need to pre-register? If it says above I apologize sometimes I miss things when reading.
3. For liberty and halter are we allowed to braid manes and add flowers or no?
and last one I promise:
can magical breeds enter as well or only natural breeds?

Hunter-Raider In reply to Fox-Skin [2020-04-19 00:43:03 +0000 UTC]
1) As many horses as you can draw!
2) The moonshine race is the only thing that needs to be pre-registered for
3) As long as the horses conformation is clearly visible, flowers and braids are okay.
4) All entrants must be at least 75% horse to enter, magical breeds are Okay but not allowed to use any magic or wings for the duration of the show
