Description Gale recognized the demon made of flames as it came closer to him in the dark.  It was brighter than a bonfire yet it didn't illuminate his surroundings.  Gale had seen it before many times.  His mind went back to that day in the past.

Neshae was with him, holding him, protecting him.  He was merely a child then, incapable of defending himself.  He and his father had been sucked into that portal to the Soul World where spirits are created.  Gale had been the one the fire monster had intended to kill.  Neshae had only gotten involved because he grabbed Gale to save him in the last instant.  Now they were both stuck there until they figured a way out.

Gale clung to his father in terror.  The demon got ever closer.  Neshae backed away, unsure of what to do.  As powerful as he was, he could not do much against fire.

It had been many years since that night.  It had taken the two a long time to escape that world.  Though he never knew just why the spirits wanted him dead so badly.

"I remember you." Gale said angrily.  "What do you want with me?"

"You may have managed to escape your fate years ago," the demon replied, "But not this time."

Gale stood his ground, having to fight the urge to run.  "Why?" He demanded.  "Why do you want to kill me?"

"To save the world, you must be destroyed." The demon said.  "Your son shall be a powerful necromancer.  The world will rue the day he was born.  To keep that from coming you must not live."

Gale hated situations like this.  He was not one who believed in "fate" but believed that everyone was in control of their own destiny.

"You don't have to do this." Gale said, being forced to back away from the heat.  "I can raise him so he won't turn evil."

"This is the way it has to be..." the demon said, reaching towards the vampire to take his life.

But Gale's thinking was quicker than that.  He materialized a fire extinguisher out of midair, a power he had gotten as a child, and shot the foam out at the demon.

The demon shrieked and writhed around, but eventually became a smoke demon instead of a fire demon.

"No matter." It said as it recovered.  "I can still kill you."

Gale almost laughed as he materialized a fan behind him.  Its blades whirled around, pushing the smoke demon back and making it fade away, blending it into the air.

"You can't escape your fate!" It cried out to him.  "If I don't kill you your son will!"

"No he won't." Gale said as the smoke cleared entirely.  He added silently, I'll raise him to be good.  Not evil.
