Description Anger boiled in Neshae’s veins as he saw the darkshadow chasing Matthew, Damien, and Gale.  They were headed onto what appeared to be some kind of junkyard surrounded by a chain-link fence.  It was on a wooden deck that was propped up on the edge of the cliff.  The rest of the mountain range was beyond that cliff, which seemed to only be about fifty feet off the ground.

Neshae flew to the junkyard and slammed into the darkshadow at full force, knocking it away from the children and into the chain-link fence.

“Stay away from—“ Neshae started, but was cut off by a sudden quaking in the deck.  Apparently, the deck wasn’t as sturdy as Neshae thought and the darkshadow slamming into it set it off balance.  The whole thing was falling over.

The deck was the first thing to fall apart.  It started falling down the side of the cliff.  The junk spilled onto the chain-link fence, bursting it apart as well as the wooden planks of the deck.  Dirt and boulders were knocked loose, causing a rock slide down to the bottom of the cliff, taking the vampires, the shape-sifter, and the darkshadow with it.

Neshae opened his eyes.  He had stopped falling.  Before him, he could see the children being backed into the wall of a mountain by the darkshadow.  It was forcing fear into them, making them too terrified to do anything.

He tried to get up and save them, but he realized he was trapped.  One of his wings was pinned under the chain-link fence sticking up out of the rubble.  His hair was tangled up around part of the fence too.  He had no idea where his hands and feet were.

He struggled to get free, watching helplessly as the beast got closer and closer to the kids.  There was one thing he could do…One thing that could save them…

“Hey!  They’re not the one’s you’re looking for!” Neshae shouted.  He created images in his head, doing his best to make them seem like real memories.

The darkshadow turned to look at him.  “What did you say?”

“They’re decoys!  I’m the one you want!  Memories that aren’t theirs were stuck in their heads somehow to lure you away from me!  It’s me you want, not them!”

The darkshadow began making its way towards Neshae.  The Fear was taken off of the kids and forced on Neshae.  “I don’t know why you’re doing this, but I don’t care.  I can continue after them after I’m done with you.”

Neshae knew his sacrifice wouldn’t be in vain.  The kids would have time to escape.  They had to.

Up at the top of the cliff, or what was left of it, Jomeiah and Dreyfus looked for Neshae.

“I could have sworn he was here.” Jomeiah said.  She stretched her mind out to find Neshae’s.  Her eyes opened.  “We gotta get down there quick.  He’s sacrificing himself.”

Neshae closed his eyes, bracing himself for the death that was about to come.  Already he could feel the darkshadow’s breath.

There was a noise and the hot breath was suddenly gone.  Neshae opened his eyes.

“Jomeiah!” he cried as the vampire children cried out “Mommy!”

Jomeiah had kicked the darkshadow away from Neshae.  It landed somewhere in the rubble.

“Daddy!” Matthew called out as he ran to Dreyfus.  The two embraced while Damien and Gale ran to their mother.

“I missed you so much.” Jomeiah said once the two were in her arms.  “I’m so glad you’re okay.”

“Hey, a little help here.” Neshae said, seeing the darkshadow recover in the corner of his eye.

Dreyfus and the kids helped free Neshae while Jomeiah distracted the darkshadow.  They were all finally together again.  And together, not even the darkshadows stood a chance.
