Chapter 12

Neshae opened his eyes.  His eyelids felt different.  It was as if they had been covered in scales.  Small scales, but still scales.  His sight was different as well.  Life forms seemed to be highlighted somehow, allowing him to see them easier.  He also noticed Matthew seemed a little small.

"Oh my god..." Matthew said, looking up at him.

"WHat?" Neshae asked.  Even his voice was different.  It was bigger, more booming.  He slashed out with his tail in irritation.

Tail?

Neshae turned his head around and saw a big, black, scaley body.  Bat like wings stuck out of his back and a tale was at his end.  He hadn't noticed before, but he had limbs now.  His hands and feet had large talons and all his teeth were fangs.

"Oh my god..." Neshae said happily when he realized what he was now.  "I'm a dragon!  I'm a freakin dragon!  WOOO!!!"

His sharpened ears picked up the sound of running footsteps, then the flapping of wings.  Neshae looked back at the Fairy Counsil and saw Raahn taking flight.  His dark smile grew wider.  The tables had turned on the platypus thing now.  He wouldn't go as far as eating him, like Dreyfus was going to, but he'd sure as heck keep him away from the Heart of the World.

He took off after Raahn.  The Raymanian looked back, cried out in surprise, then swerved out of the way just as Neshae was swooping in.  The vampire...dragon missed.  Raahn flew up, flapping his wings as fast as he could, going for the hole at the top of the building.

Before Neshae could take off after him, though, the necklace fell off and Neshae turned back into the Raymanian vampire he had been before.

"Urgh." NEshae said.  He had no time to look for the necklace.  He drew his Fire Blade and took off toward the roof.

Landed inside the building.  Raahn was nowhere to be seen.  Neshae looked around, determined to protect the Heart.

He barely turned around in time to see an axe about to slice him in half.  Neshae blocked the blow with the Fire Blade, then rolled to the side.

"I see you have your own skills with a blade." Raahn said.  "I always enjoy a challange."

"Which is why you attack people from behind?"  Neshae wondered.  "I always thought that was more of a coward's role."

Raahn attacked again.  He swung his axe at Neshae repeatedly, but the vampire was able to block every blow.  But then he spun around and his tail wacked Neshae, sending him sprawling to the floor.

Raahn left the vampire and approached the Heart.  The giant orb of energy glowed brightly, sending Raahn's shadow across the room.

"What are you doing?" Neshae asked.

"I'm taking the Heart's energy, that's what?" Raahn said.

"WHy?" Neshae asked.

"Immortality." Raahn smiled and reached his hand out to touch the orb.

He was going to take all the Heart's energy and use it to gain immortality?  Neshae wasn't close enough to stop him.

"There are better ways, you know." Neshae said.

Raahn gave an irritated sigh.  The spikes on his back stiffened and stood straight out from his back.  A greenish-orange liquid seemed to ooze from their tips.  His tail wagged back and forth like an irritated cat's.

"And what might that be?"

"Well I could bit you for starters." Neshae offered.

Raahn turned around, fury burning in his eyes.  "I will NOT become one of YOU!" He ran at Neshae and spun around, whacking him with the tail again.  "I might as well just kill you now."

"Go ahead.  Take your best shot!" Neshae got up.
