Chapter 9

The three stepped into the portal after the creature.  When they reached the other side, they found themselves in the middle of a beautiful forest.  The Fairy Council building stood proudly on an island surrounded by shallow water.  Stars filled the sky and several shot across.  Moving towards the building was the dark figure.

It stopped and turned around.  It grumbled something and approached the three.

“Get out of here.” He barked.  The figure was easily seen up close.  He was a Raymanian with dark blue hair that spiked in the back.  His eyes were a dark red-violet color.  Two wings stuck out of his back that were similar to Neshae’s but they were blue and had orange feathers on the edges.  What could be red spikes trailed down his back and ended with a green tail with barbs down its length.  His shirt was a teal color and had a golden symbol on the chest that resembled a claw reaching toward the sky.  His shoes were orange with yellow stripes going across the top, almost like tiger stripes.  In his hands was a large, double bladed axe.  “I mean it.  Don’t follow me or you’ll be sorry.”

“And why are you heading towards the Fairy Council?” Neshae asked, his fangs distrustingly coming out.  “Can’t help but he a little curious.”

“A vampire.  Well this should be interesting.”  Seeming to notice what his followers were for the first time, he went on.  “And a human and a twirp that can’t decide if he wants to be a deer, a human, or a fox.”

Neshae noticed Dreyfus looking at the creature’s wings hungrily.  He fought to keep a straight face, finding humor in the situation even he could not understand.

“And what are YOU?” Neshae asked.  “Looks to me like you can’t decide if you want to be a vampire, a bird, a lizard, a Raymanian, or uh…some weird thing with spikes on its back.”

The creature glared at Neshae.  “I am NOT a vampire!” He spat at Neshae’s feet.  Instead of getting offended, however, Neshae just gave him a half amused look.  “A disgusting rat with wings that drinks the life force of everything else.”

“Hey easy on the insults, platypus.” Neshae said.  “I don’t know who you are, but I don’t think I want a guy like you getting anywhere near the Fairy Counsil.”

“My name is Raahn.” The creature snarled.  “And you’d best stay out of my way or I’ll chop all of you like wood.”

“Why do you want to go there?” Matthew asked out of curiosity.

That struck Raahn’s last nerve.  He swung the axe at Matthew.  Neshae quickly drew his Fire Blade and blocked the blow.

Dreyfus transformed into his Grolnashier form and roared at Raahn, his mouth watering.  It was time for a feathery snack.

A look of fear showed up on Raahn’s face and he took off in flight as Dreyfus pounced at him.  Seeing he was out of reach of Dreyfus, Raahn smirked and took off towards the Fairy Counsil.
