Description Chapter 2

It was nearly sun up when they reached the human village Neshae lived by.  Dreyfus wanted to stop at the tavern, but Neshae was quick to protest.  They continued on through the village.

“Why are you afraid of the humans, Neshae” Dreyfus asked.

“I’m not.  I have crossed paths with the bar keeper.” He flashed his fangs as a demonstration, indicating that he had bitten the man.  “Another encounter would not exactly have a red carpet.  Besides, my place is way better.”

The village seemed to all look the same.  Red shingles or bricks, or white rocks.  Every now and then there would be something different.   Like the one made of black stones near the edge of the village.  It seemed to almost look like a miniature castle.  It was two stories tall, but had four towers going up the corners.

“Welcome to the Fortress of the One Greatest Limbless Vampire, Neshae.” The vampire said.

“Wow.” Dreyfus gazed at the castle in awe.  “You live there?”

“Well, kind of sort of.  It was empty when I found it.  But it’s not like I have the key to the front door.”  Neshae picked up Dreyfus.  “This is how we get in.”  He flapped his vampire, bat-like wings and they shot upward towards the roof.

They landed on a platform between the tops of the four towers.  Neshae put Dreyfus down and opened one of the tower doors.  He looked back at Dreyfus.  “Well, what are you waiting for.  Come on?”

Dreyfus trotted to the door and followed Neshae in.  They went down a dark, winding staircase.  Though it was dark, Dreyfus could see clearly.

“Another thing you’re gonna discover,” Neshae said when he noticed Dreyfus walking sure-footedly, “is that you now have dark sight, being a nocturnal creature.”  He sighed.  “Hopefully, your eyes aren’t more sensitive to sunlight now.  That happens when you become a vampire.  Gets annoying after a while when you have to be awake during the day to help your brother save the world.”

“You’ve saved the world?” Dreyfus asked.

“Yeah.” Neshae smiled.  “Check this out.” He took what looked like a handle of a sword from a belt around his waist.  At his command, a blade of flame sprang out of the handle.  It was a fire sword, one of the rarest kinds of swords of all.

“Wow.” Dreyfus said.

Neshae swung the sword around.  “Yeah.  My dad left this to me years ago.  He was one of the few who could use this thing.  Now I am.”

“He left it to you?” Dreyfus didn’t like the sound of that.  “What happened to him?”

There was a look of pain in Neshae’s eyes.  “Uh…the handy work of my brother’s first enemy, Mister Dark.”

Dreyfus stopped in his tracks.  “You’re Rayman’s brother!” he exclaimed.

Neshae pushed open a door and they entered a large room.  Despite the gloomy appearance of the black stones and torches, and the suit of armor in the corner, the room had a cozy appearance.  A fire was going in the fire place to the right.  Several chairs were scattered around the room.  Another door was on the far wall.  On the left wall was a bookshelf bordering a window.  And there was a rug on the floor with designs of teensies running in a circle, holding zodiac symbols.

A humanoid-like creature suddenly flew into the window.  Neshae and Dreyfus ducked in surprise.  It flew around the room, its moth-like wings flapping furiously.

It flew into the wall above fireplace, then fell to the floor.  The two straightened and looked at him curiously.

“Are you alright?” Dreyfus asked.

“Get behind me.” Neshae said.

A voice that sounded much like Neshae’s sounded in Dreyfus’s head.  I don’t trust him.  He said.

Dreyfus obeyed, though he began to change back to his human form.  The moth man stood up, then turned to face them.

It was like a man, but had huge moth wings and compound eyes.  It was covered in moth-like hairs and was clothed in some leather armor.  The sight of it made Neshae wince slightly.  It was certainly the strangest thing he had ever seen in his life.

“A vampire!” the moth man cried.  “And one with a fire sword none the less.”  A sphere of blue energy formed in its hand.  “Feel the wrath of Hyperactive Moth Man.”
