Description
Chapter 5They reached the beach by the middle of the day. Neshae had been there a time or two before, so he knew the quickest way there. He had crossed that ocean shortly after he’d been bitten.
He eyed the humans hungrily and his fangs came out for second, but then he saw Dreyfus head to the water. He smiled and retracted his fangs. It was time to show off his swimming. He raced past the weredeer and dove headfirst into a wave, flapping his wings to send him forward instead of being swept backward by the current.
Bilbo followed the two to the beach. He saw the vampire dive into the water before the weredeer. This was his chance. He held the gun and aimed.
Neshae’s head popped out of the water as Dreyfus was getting in. In the corner of his eye he saw something odd. He looked over and saw the hunter from before. He had his gun aimed at Dreyfus.
“Dreyfus, get down!” he cried out.
Dreyfus had already dived into the water, though and the bullet shot by harmlessly. The humans began to panic at the sound. The ran around screaming in all directions, knocking over chairs and umbrellas and everything in their paths. Chaos had entered the beach, blocking the vampire and weredeer from the hunter’s view.
Dreyfus’s head broke the surface of the water. “What’s going on?” he asked, looking at the chaos on the beach.
“Our friend from before.” Neshae said and took off in flight.
The hunter’s eyes widened as he saw the vampire swoop down at him. He aimed his gun and Neshae swerved to the right. The bullet flew past him. He rammed into the hunter head first. He tried to bite his neck, but the hunter managed to shove him away from that spot.
The two wrestled on the sand for a minute. Dreyfus climbed out of the water and tried to run to Neshae’s aid, but the sand was making this difficult. He had to find a faster way.
Almost as an instinct, he twisted his tails together and shot upward. He could use his tails to fly! He had never even thought of that before. He flew at the two wrestling on the ground and rammed the hunter with his antlers.
He bounced off the hunter and landed on the sand. The hunter rolled a few feet and grabbed his gun again, aiming for Dreyfus.
“Oh no you don’t!” Neshae grabbed the barrel of the gun.
A bullet flew into the air at a new angle, missing Dreyfus by a mile. Neshae’s fangs came out and he stared into the hunter’s eyes. The hunter tried to look away, but was drawn into Neshae’s hypnotic stare.
You will leave the deer alone or be drained…Neshae sent a telepathic message to his head.
The hunter nodded, his face pale, and left the beach. He immediately thought What am I doing? And turned around, but the two were gone.
“Come on.” Neshae told Dreyfus. “That hunter is smarter than most humans. The hypnotism will clear in a minute.” He took off in flight, followed by Dreyfus.
“Where are we going now?” Dreyfus asked.
“Away from here.” Neshae answered.
