Description Chapter 14

It wasn’t long before they reached the Frost Lake.  The sun was high in the sky and reflected on the ice on the lake’s surface like a mirror.  Alaesia picked up a large rock and threw it as far as she could.  Not even a scratch appeared on the ice.

“Seems solid enough.” She said.

“Let’s just hope you didn’t crack the ice below the surface.” Rayman said and stepped on the surface of the lake.

The two walked out to the middle of the lake.  Nothing moved underneath the surface that they could see.  Not even the occasional fish.

“So how do we get this thing’s attention?” Rayman wondered.

Alaesia knocked on the ice.  “HELLO!”

There was a vibration.  “I think that worked.” Rayman said.

A white blob appeared below the surface of the ice.  Rayman and Alaesia watched for a moment as the blob got bigger and bigger.

“Out of the way!!”  Rayman cried and the two dove out of the way as a white serpent head broke through the ice.

The ice cracked and broke off in pieces, floating on the surface of the water.  Rayman and Alaesia were each on one of these pieces.  The ice serpent stuck it’s head out of the water.  The head was several times Rayman’s size and there was no telling how long its body was, but a good thirty feet of it was sticking out of the ice.  Blue eyes darted around, looking for the poor souls who had disturbed it, then fell on Rayman.

The serpent inhaled and shot a blast of ice at the Raymanian.  Rayman jumped off the ice piece he was on and onto another, struggling to keep his balance on it.

“Rayman!  Look out!” Alaesia called.  Rayman turned his head just in time to see another blast come at him.  He tried to jump to another ice piece, but slipped on the ice and fell into the icy water.

It was then that the serpent focused its attention on Alaesia.  At the same time it shot an ice blast at her, she shot a fire blast at it.  The two blasts met at the midpoint and the fire stopped the ice.  The serpent stopped shooting blasts of ice and went back under the surface.

Rayman swam back up to the surface, shivering.  He tried to climb up onto another ice piece, but it was too slippery.

“Rayman!” Alaesia called as she jumped from ice piece to ice piece to help him out of the water.  “It’s gone under!”

Rayman felt water rush by him as if something huge had just swam by.  He tried harder to get on the ice piece.  Alaesia knelt down and reached out a hand.  Rayman took her hand and she pulled him out of the water.

“Run.” Rayman said and scrambled to his feet.  The two ran on ice that was still somewhat together as the serpent head shot out of the ice where Rayman had been.

“What are we supposed to catch this ice in?” Alaesia asked.

The ice serpent sunk back under the water.

“I don’t know.” Rayman said.  “Check the back pack.”  He looked down and saw the white blob coming to the surface.  “Split up!”

Alaesia took off to the left while Rayman took off to the right.  The serpent’s head came out, missing them once again.

“Over here, you garden snake!” Rayman called, distracting the ice serpent while Alaesia looked through the back pack.

The serpent shot a blast of ice at Rayman, who rolled out of the way to dodge it.

“Is that the best you got?” Rayman shouted.

The serpent dove for Rayman, who barely turned and ran in time.

While Rayman distracted the serpent, Alaesia dug through the back pack for anything that might help.  All she could find, however, was an old clay jar.

This will have to do…she thought.  “Hey!  Oversized handbag!  Over here!”

The ice serpent’s head rose out of the water, its eyes fixed on Alaesia.

“Yeah you!” Alaesia called.  “What’s the matter?  Can’t take on a girl?”

The ice serpent inhaled, then shot a powerful blast of ice at Alaesia.  She held the jar out in front of her, hoping that her plan worked.  The blast hit the jar, sending her back.  She landed on her back on the ice, but when she looked into the jar, she saw that she had caught the ice blast.  It worked.

“I got the blast!” she called to Rayman.  “Let’s get out of here!”

Alaesia got to her feed and she and Rayman raced to shore, dodging the ice serpent’s blasts as they ran.  Now they had to find the Hammer of Thor and get it from the wizards.
