Description Chapter 2

It was a long while before the horse tired and stopped to graze.  Baeein stole the opportunity to get out of the cart.  As he was climbing out, his foot got caught on something else and he fell face first to the ground.

He sat up in frustration and saw the thing that he had tripped over.  It was a leather belt.  The frustration vanished as he realized how all of today’s little trips and falls turned into advantages.  If he was going to find a sword, might as well have a belt to put it on.  He put on the belt and stood up.

He looked at the shadows of the trees.  It was in the afternoon and the shadows reached towards the east, heading slightly to his left.  He turned a little so he was facing south and ventured into the forest.

“Look out!” cried a female voice.

Something hit him in the stomach.  At first he thought he’d been shot, but he realized that the thing that hit him had hit the buckle of his belt.

There was a high bitched sicker from up in the trees.  He looked up and saw long tailed, furry, limbless creatures.  Creators of mischief as they were, they had thrown something at him.

“Are you okay?” asked the voice.

Baeein turned his head and saw a limbless woman about his age.  Her hair was blonde and reached down her back.  She wore a light blue dress with a swirl on it, symbolizing wind magic.  Tied around her waist was a strip of purple cloth that matched her eyes.

“I…uh…” Baeein seemed at a loss for words.

“Can I have my wind crystal back?” she asked.

“Wind crystal?”

“The thing that hit you.  It’s in your belt.” She said.

Baeein looked down and saw a clear crystal encased in a silver chain.  It seemed to be stuck in the belt buckle.  Baeein tried to take it out, but it was jammed.

“I can’t.” he said.  “It’s jammed.”

The girl sighed in frustration.  “Oh fine, I’ll do it.” She reached for his buckle.

It seemed kind of awkward, a girl messing with Baeein’s belt, but he stood still and let her try to get the crystal out.

“You’re right.” She said finally.  “It is jammed.  Take it off.”

“What?”

“Take off your belt.  If I cant get the crystal off then I will take the belt.”

“No!” Baeein said.  “I won’t give you my belt”

“My grandmother gave me that crystal.  I need it.” The girl said.

“Well you’re not getting my belt.”

The wind seemed to pick up a little.  There was a dark look in the girl’s eyes.  “I didn’t want this to get this far.  I have a very short temper and when I start getting upset, my wind powers start coming out.  I can’t control them without my crystal.”

The wind became a cyclone and Baeein was lifted off the ground.  “Okay!” he said.  A belt was not worth falling to his death.

Luckily, he had only gone up a few feet.  When the girl calmed down the wind stopped and he fell to the ground.  He stood up and tried to slip the belt off of him.  It wouldn’t move.

The girl cursed.  “It’s probably a side effect.  They crystal isn’t supposed to be jammed anywhere so when something goes wrong it starts leaking magic that does anything at random, such as not letting you take off your belt.”

“Then how do we get your crystal out?” Baeein asked.

“Don’t know.  But until then, we’re stuck together.  Where are you headed?”

“To the Island of Caneas.” Baeein answered.

“Why in the world would you want to go there?” the girl asked.

“I’ll explain on the way.” Baeein said.  “But first, you got a name?”

The girl started off south.  “Helain.”

Baeein caught up with her.  “I’m Baeein.”

Baeein explained the situation to Helain. She didn’t appear to be listening, but taking in the scenery more.

“Have you even been listening?” Baeein asked when he finished.

She ignored his question.  “So what makes you think you’re the one of the few who can use the Fire Blade?”

Baeein shrugged.  “Don’t know.  But what if Erverar isn’t and I could have been and I ran away like the others?  I have to try.  You’d probably be safer going with them than following me.”

“And let you get away with my crystal?  No.”

It almost seemed that everything she said was contradicting everything Baeein said.  By the end of the day, he was frustrated.  He wished that he had the power to call wind and spin her in a few circles.

This looks like as good of a place to sleep as any other.” Helain said as they stopped in a grove of trees.
