Chapter 27

Neshae drew the blade of flame and leapt in the air as the Dreyfus and Giovanni moved outside.  He flew out the window after them and joined in the fight, fire being added to ice and lightning.

The black cloud disappeared as Giovanni landed on the roof of the castle.  Neshae and Dreyfus landed and charged.

“Since lightning won’t work, how about earth?” Giovanni spread his arms and great trees burst out of the roof, vines crawling up their trunks and deadly flowers with fangs inside the petals hanging from the branches.

The two were almost completely distracted by the vines, which kept trying to wrap themselves around the vampire and werefoxdeer and pull them to the flowers.  And when they sliced a vine to pieces, it just kept growing.

The vines finally managed to wrap themselves around the two.  One pinned one of Neshae’s hands to his sides and pulled him towards one tree while another pinned both Dreyfus’s arms and pulled him towards another.

Before Neshae knew what he was doing, he grabbed the vine holding Dreyfus and fire completely covered his body, seeming to come from both himself and the sword.  He had seen a friend of his do something like this, and now it was working for him too.  The fire spread lightning fast along the vines and to the trees.  The flowers shrieked in pain and the vines incinerated, turning to ash while Dreyfus and Neshae tried their shield magic.  Soon all that was left of what Giovanni conjured up was a few piles of ashes.

Giovanni’s form changed again, this time to a form only Neshae recognized.  He became a mass of large tentacles with a mouth full of fangs in the center.  Luckily, Neshae and Dreyfus were just far enough away so that they could dodge the tentacles as they came at them.

While they were busy fending off tentacles, Giovanni was slowly getting closer.  His almost nonexistent body left a trail of ooze behind him on the roof as he approached the two.  And all the time he was sprouting more tentacles, keeping Dreyfus and Neshae distracted.

Two tentacles shoved themselves through Neshae’s and Dreyfus’s chests and pulled themselves back out.  Though no mark was left to leave any sign of the tentacles going through them, they were unable to move.  Neshae’s body went numb as he and Dreyfus collapsed to the roof, dropping their swords.  Tentacles wrapped around them and began pulling them closer to the mouth at the center.
