Chapter 6Neshae reached for his Fire Blade, but to his surprise, drew a fencing sword instead. “What the hell?” he cried out. Not only had this crazy universe changed his clothes, but had replaced his blade of inferno with a flimsy fencing sword.
Boolossus attacked while Neshae was distracted and the vampire barely blocked the sword in time. He’d have to settle for the flimsy fencing sword for now. Dreyfus joined in the fencing battle, but Boolossus seemed to be able to handle both their swords, making Neshae wish he had his Fire Blade even more. If he had it, the giant ghost thing would be no match for him.
Boolossus’s sword came at Neshae’s head. He ducked and the sword knocked of his hat, slicing it to ribbons in mid air.
“Is this all you can do?” Boolossus asked in a taunting voice. “I was hoping for a challenge, not a meal served to me on a platter.”
“I’ll give you a challenge!” Neshae said and leapt at the ghost. Neshae simply went through the ghost and landed on the floor behind him.
Boolossus turned around and held his sword aimed at Neshae’s heart. “Hmmm…you look like you would make a good steak.”
Before the ghost could stab Neshae, it suddenly exploded, turning into fifteen smaller versions of it.
“What the…” Neshae said as he stood up.
“I stabbed it.” Dreyfus said, backing out of the way of a frantically flying ghost.
“But when I attacked, I just went through it.” Neshae said.
“Well in the game, the only way to beat this guy is to pop him, then freeze and vacuum the fragments.” Dreyfus said.
A couple of the ghosts merged together. Boolossus was starting to reform.
“How are we gonna do that?” Neshae asked. He tried popping a smaller ghost, but the sword just went through it.
In the same instant Neshae thought it, Dreyfus did it. The beast had mentioned they had powers. And Dreyfus took a deep breath and blew, trying to create a blast of ice to freeze the small ghosts before they could merge.
At first, nothing happened, but then the ghost he’d blown on began to solidify.
“My turn.” Neshae said as he kicked the ghost into a wall, causing it to shatter. “Does the shoe sandwich taste good, Bubble Boy?”
The rest of the ghost reformed, making a slightly smaller Boolossus. He glared at Neshae. “You will be eaten first.”
But that didn’t happen. While Neshae distracted him, Dreyfus popped him, then froze another fragment. Then Neshae would kick the frozen ghost into a wall, each time adding another insult. Which kept Boolossus focused on him instead of Dreyfus. Soon, all that was left of Boolossus was a pile of shattered ice.
“Now how do we get out of here?” Dreyfus wondered.
Neshae examined the door. “Doesn’t look like we can pick the lock. Maybe we could break it down.”
The two threw themselves at the door a few times, but it was too thick. It didn’t budge. But then, they heard a click on the other side, and the door slowly swung open a few inches.
