Description
Chapter 11As they were walking back to the birdcage later that day, Hesaoh looked at every door they passed. Which one led to the sword? Finally, he had to open one. He reached out to pus one open.
“What are you doing?” Ann asked, stepping between him and the door.
“I have to find the sword.” Hesaoh said. He reached around her to push it open.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you.” Prince William approached from down the hall. “You’ve gotten yourself in enough trouble already. The king wouldn’t like you snooping around, especially looking for that sword.”
“I don’t care.” Hesaoh said. “I have to get that sword and save Thorn.”
“I know where your friend is.” The prince said. “And you won’t find him in there.”
Hesaoh looked at the bird. “Where is he?”
“He is in danger. And the only way to save him is to find the fire blade, made specifically for your hands. The blade that the evil seeks.”
“What are you talking about?” Marie asked.
“The same evil that endangers the Rasphoenix. This shall not be an easy task, but I can help you by telling you where the sword is. It is in the aquarium, in the mouth of the king’s shark. But be wary, for if you try to take it from the shark, you may end up in the shark’s mouth instead.”
“No kidding.” Hesaoh said. “Thanks for the tip. Now where’s this aquarium?”
“You’ll find it.” Prince William said before walking away.
Hesaoh walked further down the hall, looking at every door, trying to decide which one was correct.
“What evil is after the Rasphoenix?” Ann wondered.
“I don’t know. But whatever it is, it’s endangering Thorn. And I have a hunch it’s the man that came through the portal with Thorn and me.” Hesaoh answered.
“Why would someone from another world want to harm the Rasphoenix?” Ann asked.
Hesaoh turned around and faced her. “I don’t know! All I know is I have to get that sword before he does! Why would he want to hurt anyone? But he has! And there’s no telling what he could do if he gets that weapon.” He turned around and continued.
“A bit edgy, isn’t he?” Marie observed.
“Who has he hurt, Hesaoh?” Ann asked.
But Hesaoh didn’t answer. He had found what he was looking for. In front of them was a blue door that had an almost liquid look to it. Carved into the wood was a fish.
Hesaoh cautiously opened the door and crept in. One huge tank stood at the back of the room. It was massive, holding many different kinds of fish. In the background, far in the distance, was made of rocks, caves lining the surcace.
“Wow.” All three of them said.
A shark swam by the surface. There was a gleam of silver in its jaws as it passed. “That’s my sword.” Hesaoh said. He looked up at the top of the tank. “Can one of you give me a boost?”
“We’ll help you,” Marie said, “If you help us. We have to find a cure for the Rasphoenix in order to save our home.”
Hesaoh nodded. “Okay. I’ll help you.” He climbed on Ann and she flew him up to the top of the tank.
As he was lowered into the water, she said, “Be careful.”
Hesaoh nodded. “I will.” And he went under.
He swam towards the shark, but it kept swimming away. He had to lure it to him somehow.
Then he thought of something, though it made his stomach twist into knots. Sharks were attracted to blood, but he would more than likely get eaten than get the sword if he cut himself. But he was running out of air and had to hurry. He found some coral nearby and cut his hand.
The shark smelled the blood and swam at him. His heart pounded as he waited for it. Its mouth opened and the sword handle fell out, sinking into the depths of the tank. Hesaoh made a mad dive for it, barely escaping the jaws of the shark.
He grabbed the sword as the shark made another attack at him. He tried to summon the fire blade, but it wouldn’t work.
Probably because I’m underwater. He thought. But now he had no weapon and the shark was dangerously close.
Hesaoh punched the nose of the shark, making it change course and swim off. It circled him while he swam for the surface. He was about to climb out when he suddenly noticed the shark an instant away from taking a bite out of him.
He cried out and felt a hand grab him and pull him out of the water. From the force of the pull, the two were thrown off balance and thrown off the edge of the tank and back to the floor to the waiting Marie.
She was on top of him now, a beautiful, human woman. Possibly the most beautiful he’d ever seen. For that moment, nothing else existed, not the castle, not the sword, not Marie, it was just him and this girl.
Before he could react, she changed, once again becoming the white bird he knew to be Ann. She got off of him and they both stood up.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were so beautiful?” He asked, picking up his sword.
