Description Chapter 20

Hesaoh pushed with all his might.  Next to him, Thorn and Marie were pushing as well as they could.  His torso was wedged in between two bars in the cell door.  He was going to squeeze through the bars and steal the keys from the guard.  But he had to make it through the bars first.

“I’m almost through.” He said quietly.  “Just a little farther.”

With one final push from all three, the torso shot through the bars and landed on the ground.  After that, the rest of the Raymanian had no problem going through.

He crept through the dungeon as quietly as he could.  He finally came upon a small room with two birds in it.  They were talking and eating birdseed.  On the table next to the bowl of birdseed was a ring of keys.

He had to plan this perfectly.  If he entered the room, then all it would take was one glance his way and he would be found out.  And they would be bound to notice him taking the keys.  He was actually surprised they hadn’t seen him looking into the room.

He looked around, trying to find anything at all that might help him in this situation.  All he could find was a loose rock.  He sighed.  Then an idea came to him.

Hesaoh picked up the rock.  He threw it down the hall and tensed at the loud bang.  He hurried around the corner where he came from as the birds flew out of the room to see what the noise was.  When they were past, Hesaoh went into the room only to discover that they had taken the keys with them.

He left the room and followed the two birds down the hallway.  This would be tricky, but it was the only way.

He found them investigating the thrown rock.  One of them had the key ring in its wing.  His luck seemed to be getting steadily worse.

Well, if something planned out wasn’t going to work, then maybe something completely random would.  It was risky, but what other choice did he have?

He ran towards the birds.  “The British are coming!  The British are coming!”  He cried.

Both birds looked his way in surprise.

“I need the keys!” he said, taking the key ring from the birds.  “Metal is their only weakness!”  Then he turned and ran back.  The birds were left in confusion and surprise.

Soon, he found the cell door once again and unlocked it, letting out Thorn and Marie.

“Look out!” Marie suddenly cried, looking behind Hesaoh.

Hesaoh turned around just in time for something to slam into him, knocking him into Thorn.  Like dominos, the three fell back into the dungeon cell and the door was closed and locked again.

“Got any more ideas?” Hesaoh asked.  “I doubt they will fall for that again.”

This takes place somewhat after--somewhere between Colonial and Victorian (hence the mix of style).
