Description
Chapter 9While most of the birds flew to the dining room, the two that had been in the cage with him few to join him while one more unlocked his chains. Then that bird flew off to join the others.
“They’re going to make us eat people?” Hesaoh winced.
“Afraid so.” The white bird said. “My name is Ann Mandarine and this is Marie Augustus. Pleased to meet you.”
“I’m Hesaoh.” Hesaoh said. “Nice to meet you too, but I really have to get my sword and get out of here.”
“Those birds aren’t going to let you get the sword. They see plenty of reason to keep you separated from it.” Marie said.
“But I’m not the threat they’re talking about. Someone else came through the portal with me.” Hesaoh said. “My friend, Thorn and a man that is trying to get that sword. If anyone is threatening this place, it’s that man.”
Ann and Marie looked at each other.
“Do you think that might have something to do with the Rasphoenix’s health?” Marie asked.
“The sooner we get that sword out of this world, the sooner that bird god thing will be safe.” Hesaoh said. “I have to get that sword, find Thorn, and get back home.” He added darkly, “And kill that man.”
“Are you coming?” called the voice of a bird from the dining room.
“Come on.” Ann said. “We can sort this out after we eat.”
“I can’t wait any longer. I have to get out as soon as possible.” Hesaoh said.
“I’ll bet you could use some of the food in there.” Ann tried to persuade him into the dining room.
The smell of food wafted in from the dining room and Hesaoh realized how hungry he was. He hadn’t eaten in days. Not since he left the village to explore in the mountain. Hunger won over his quest for now and he followed the two birds into the dining room.
