Description
The sun set in the Alantian sky as LJ opened his eyes.  The fairy with a small amount of witch blood in him had woken up several minutes ago.  He had just been too lazy to get up yet without the proper motivation.

LJ sat up.  His hair was dark and wavy.  His eyes were blue and his right eye had a brown spot in it like a freckle in his eye.  He was dressed in a dark blue cloak, which was easier to take off to make room for his wings when flying was needed.

He had been sent to the Dead Forest to find a special herb needed to make a medicine that would bring down the fever of a troll.  He had just left his home in the Jungle of Jade the previous day with a friend of the family, Gojem.

Gojem was a vampire that had been a friend of the family since LJ’s mother had first come to Alantos.  He had promised to accompany LJ on his journey and to teach him some fighting skills along the way.  Dinarians, supporters of the villain his mother had once fought, could still be around.

Gojem was already awake and ready to leave when LJ woke up.  “Ready?” he asked.

LJ nodded and stood up.  A full moon rose in the sky, making it easier for him to find his way in the dark.  Unfortunately, he hadn’t inherited his mother’s ability to sense objects.

They had reached the Elvin Woods before daybreak the previous day.  Trees surrounded them, silvery black in the moonlight.  LJ took off his cloak, revealing blue jeans with a hole in the knee, and spread his wings.  Gojem transformed into a bat so large, no one could mistake it for an ordinary bat.  Then they took off into the night.

They flew until Gojem spotted a human to feed on.  The vampire swooped down, fangs revealed, at the unsuspecting target.  LJ went to the trees to find fruits for his own lunch.

He sat in a tree, his back against the trunk, as he held the fruit in his hand.  It was orange in color and somewhat diamond shaped.  He took a bite when he heard a noise.

It was a scratching noise that came from the forest floor.  LJ dropped to the ground and looked into the bush, silent as the feeding vampire a good distance away.  A pair of gleaming eyes met his.

A creature emerged from the bush, looking like a wolf, but twice the size of one, leapt at him.  LJ knew what it was, once hearing Gojem’s tale of defeating several werewolves that attacked at once.

“Gojem!” He shouted and took flight.

The werewolf was already in the air at that point and hit him just as his feet left the ground.  It was not quick enough, however, for Gojem.

The vampire charged in bat form, hissing at the werewolf that growled in return.  It was not about to loose its prey this night.  It took LJ’s arm in its mouth and ran off.

LJ felt the skin on his arm break as Gojem attacked the werewolf.  He pushed it over, causing the teeth to go in a different direction.  And now LJ had been bitten.

He struggled to get free, kicking and hitting the werewolf.  Gojem hit it with his bat claws, causing it to let go of LJ and fly into a tree.  It yelped as it hit the trunk, then leapt at the vampire.

“Run!” Gojem shouted.  LJ did what he was told, knowing full well that Gojem could take it on his own.  The damage had already been done, however.  Blood from his bitten arm dripped down its length.  He was going to become a werewolf.
