Here we have a mixed media experiment. One half of this portrait was done in pencil, the other one was completely done with black ink pens. I like how the different techniques influence the appearance of her face and hair and even create totally different depth perceptions and dimensions. However, I am not completely pleased with the crosshatching technique I chose for the ink side, because it's a bit...boring, actually. Before I started working on it I had something more stylized in mind - but then things just went their way. (: In retrospective I think I should've used a dotting technique, it would've given me more freedom (probably).I have a folder on my computer in which I save photos of appealing faces I find around the internet, for later use in certain projects (like this). I think the reference photo is of Cara Delevingne. (: However, I did not try to portrait her! Just used the picture as a ref to see how a face works and where shadows go etc.
