Description
Lacie examined the small glass vial she held above her in between her index finger and thumb, shaking it to hear the pink liquid slosh around inside. The bottle sparkled in the afternoon sunlight and the resulting tinkling sound from tapping it was soothing to the ears. The young spirit had been pushing the assignment off until the hype of Valentine’s Day had died down and the thought of love was not first priority. She was not eager to be influenced by emotions such as love, especially if they were merely the effects of a potion that would wear off in time. Romance walked hand in hand with betrayal and Lacie was not prepared to commit to a relationship based mainly on trust. Then again, it wasn’t like the assignment required a long time romantic relationship between the caster and bespelled so she supposed she would simply have to deal with it.Sitting up suddenly, she uncorked the bottle and with an inward shrug downed the contents. The potion was sweet and tangy at first, causing her mouth to tingle, but went down her throat with effort, leaving behind a contrasting bitter taste. Opening and closing her mouth a few times in disgust, she shook her head and tried to ignore the sourness that remained. Then she looked around hesitantly. She was unsure how the potion was meant to work. She didn’t… feel any different, but then again, she supposed she still needed a counterpart to cast a spell on.
She stood and brushed herself off, then trotted to the person nearest to her. There was no use on waiting for someone to come to her so she decided to initiate contact first.
“Excuse me, but would you mind terribly helping me with something?” The boy she approached was tall, especially in comparison to Lacie’s petite stature. She strained to look up to him, scrutinizing him with her eyes as she got closer. Recognition crossing her mind, she realized that the stranger she initially thought him to be was none other than Conrad whom she had encountered previously in her stay at the academy. Her face flushed a bit at the memory of their blind date, but she waved it off as a side effect to the potion, and steeled herself. It was better to get the whole ordeal over with.

//Conrad was on his way back to his dorm after being royally beaten up by an angry half-demon. He supposes it was his own fault, seeing as he'd made her anger enough to push him over a cliff. Thank goodness she had been forgiving enough not to kill him off right then and there, though she did leave him in the middle of nowhere. He somehow made his way back to the academy despite getting lost, and was all about ready to fall back into his bed, grab the nearest book and read till nightfall.
Until he was interrupted by a voice, calling out for a favor that is.
He was ready to turn around with a polite smile, decline to help them and rush back to his room but stopped short when he recognized the person who called out to him.
"Lacie!" He grins pleasantly. He hadn't seen the petite girl around much after their date, even though he was rooming with said girl's brother so it was nice to see her again. "Hey, how are you?" he smiles. "And what help do you need from me?" he asks, smile still on his face. "I'd be glad to help you!" he probably shouldn't say that when he doesn't even know what she needs help with, but whatever. She was a friend, and he would try to help here regardless of what it is.
~~~~~~~~~~
“Lacie!” The girl in question felt quite light headed. The potion was affecting her much more strongly than she had originally anticipated. Recalling now, she had read a thing or two about love potions… was she supposed to take the whole bottle as she had or would a drop or two have sufficed. It was no use thinking about it now. She was determined to keep a level head and carry through the assignment.
“He-hey, I’m good!” she replied brightly, feeling a bit fuzzy. “I just need someone to help me with this assignment. See, I’m supposed to cast a spell on someone while under the effects of a l-love potion.” She slapped her cheeks wither her hands as she stumbled along her words then breathed in deeply to calm herself. “So, yeah, I just need to cast a spell on you, something simple like a small hex or charm!” She explained.
She paused for a bit, catching her breath after her hurried and nervous explanation. She didn’t understand why she was so incredibly flustered. “S-sorry if I’m not my usual self! I seem to have taken too large a dose of potion.” Lacie didn’t know why she needed to reassure him of such a trifle, but she felt compelled to impress him or make a likeable impression. The reasonable part of her that was not affected by the spell induced haze, groaned inwardly and fought against the magic that had overtaken her. It seemed that love was far more difficult to overcome than she had thought.
~~~~~~~~~
//"Love potion?" He purses his lips slightly. He had a run-in with a love potion incident not too long ago and honestly, it wasn't a nice experience what with someone who usually hates his guts was wrapped around him, very obviously trying to get him into her bed. He'd somehow escape and got the assistance of a teacher but still, it was quite the experience. Love potions didn't have that much of a good impression for him.
But looking at Lacie, she seemed almost completely composed, aside for her slight fumbling and stuttering. So he supposed it was going to be fine? he smiles down to the petite girl and nods his head, a small grin growing on his face. "Sure, then! I can do that, I guess,"
"Are you sure you're okay though, Lacie?" he furrows his eyebrows. "You look kinda flustered..."
~~~~~~~~
Lacie’s heart fell at the sight of his hesitation. What if he declined? It would be disappointing for sure but it also made Lacie feel devastated, for reasons beyond her understanding. It wasn’t like her to really truly be eager to socialize and it made her uneasy. Something in her chest squeezed and she looked up at Conrad, awaiting his response with desperation written on her face.
It was a relief to her when he seemed to make up his mind and agreed to help her, not only because of convenience but also because she couldn’t imagine wanting to work with anyone else.
“Great!” She beamed, flashing a grin at him. Conrad was also smiling, and it warmed Lacie’s heart. At that moment, she felt bold enough that she could just hug him. She leaned forward slightly and stepped towards him.
“Are you sure you’re okay though, Lacie?” The spirit snapped out of her daze and shook her head slightly. Right, the assignment, she had to get it done. Her mind was aware of this but her body was tingling and her heart was beating wildly, so much that she worried that Conrad would be able to hear it. Logically, she knew she was succumbing to the effects of the potion and that these feelings we unrealistic and fake. But still, her emotions raged with in her, and she struggled to not smother the poor boy in an embrace.
Instead, she appeased her desire by lightly touching Conrad on the arm. “I’m perfectly fine! As long as you’re here I—” She cut herself off. What was she saying? “T-that’s not it, I mean, l-let’s get on with the assignment.” Her voice grew meek with embarrassment. “I-I’ll try to cast a spell now…”
~~~~~~~
//Her look of relief and cheer of, "Great!" made him grin a little wider, nodding his head. She stepped closer to him and he braced himself for a hug, since it looked like she was go to just that, but she didn't. She almost seemed as if she was struggling with something.
He looks at Lacie with concern written on his face. She did take a dose too large from the potion. Maybe it was affecting her not only on and emotionally level, but to a physical level? She couldn't have gotten sick from it, couldn't she? Conrad felt a little bit relieved when she'd said she was fine but her following words made him raise an eyebrow.
"As long as you're here, I--" As long as he was here, she was.... what? Rather than being bothered by the question, he was curious as to what she would say but she cut herself off. Conrad blinks before smiling down at Lacie reassuringly and nodding at her meek voice saying she'd try to cast a spell. Must have been the potion.
"Sure. I'm ready when you are,"
~~~~~~~
‘As long as you’re here, I can do anything!’ is what she had been going to say; or at least that was along the lines of it. Her cheeks flushed, a normal occurrence for the young spirit, but for some reason it was different now. Of course embarrassment was a part of it, but there was also something else that Lacie couldn’t explain. Her mind was jumbled in a way that she was unable to express. Damn, being in love was a pain.
His nod was encouraging, and Lacie brightened a bit. Even without the potion, she realized that Conrad was nice, and very sweet at that. The oncoming headache of taking control of her feelings seemed almost bearable with his reassurance. She took a breath and let the red drain from her cheeks. Now that she was more or less composed, she stepped back to make distance herself from him. In doing so she realized the difference in height and how mature Conrad looked compared to her. Lacie, though she was well over a century old, was stuck in an adolescent body that would never age. Sure, she could’ve died a little later in a body that was struck by the awkwardness of puberty, so she supposed she would be considered luck. But still, having the looks of a child was inconvenient in most situations. Like this one now. How was she supposed to appear alluring and attractive if she looked no older than 13?
Right, it didn’t matter, because that wasn’t the point of the task at hand. Lacie gritted her teeath slightly and glanced up at Conrad. “Alright! This may give you a little shock but it shouldn’t hurt too badly. It’s a simplistic stunning spell though, so you may want to brace yourself.”
She stepped back and concentrated on Conrad’s handsome figure, murmuring the required incantation under her breath. The spell, if done correctly, was supposed to shock the victim, just enough to stop them in their tracks. The caster would then, theoretically, have enough time to strike or flee if needed. It could also be used in pranks, however.
Lacie paused. Conrad looked unaffected, and she hadn’t felt the usual surge of power through her that occurred whenever she manipulated magic. Don’t tell me…nothing happened? Lacie’s mind was starting to go into full blown panic. The feelings she had previously pushed down began to rise up again, and were affecting her ability to cast magic. I can’t hurt him! I love- No, that phrase was taboo. Maybe she had just missed the surge.
“D-did you feel anything at all?” He concern was evident on her face, and she was starting to despair. She didn’t want to be rendered useless merely because of a few butterflies in her stomach!
