Description
Is it:- what the title suggests (see that doorway with its slyly beckoning vortex)?
- a new style of glowstick?
- some lengths of pipe lined up on the bathroom floor?
- something else?
Experimenting with the disc variation. There is so much to be squeezed out of these type of fractals: each degree of transform rotation produces a fresh design. I was debating about whether to post this, but it is both odd and striking...

I'm glad you posted this one. Reminds me of either slider controls on an alien dashboard or the backpack of a highly organized raver. For some reason it makes me think of Halloween too. I have no idea why. Maybe because both are awesome?

I haven't really experimented much with the variations yet, but you're right, there's soooo much to be discovered in Apo, SUCH a brilliant programme. I think you could play for a thousand years and never tire of it

LIME GREEN METAL RODS!!!!!! wewt!!! I need to borrow that and throwm them at my exroommate who screwed me over this past weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
However tho... I think it definately looks better as art .... on the plus side loving the texture again both the smooth metallicyness and thebackground. (and again with the semi hallucinations.... i can't be this tired.... *sigh*

Sssssssst!! A chemist! Ahhhhhhh! The acid, it burnsss!
I make a jest. I never did really get the hang of chemistry, especially organic.
But fractals and chaotic math are fun!

Thanks Natalie! The shapes are oddly deceiving because they appear to be skewed, whilst they actually occupy perfect rectangles, the edges being in shadow. Definitely an eye-boggler

i like the texturing in there! I suspect if you rendered at a higher quality it would be gone

I reckon you might be right! It looked positively hairy on preview, here (Q=1000/2000?), it's become brushed metal...

IDeviant In reply to CabinTom [2007-06-25 08:01:21 +0000 UTC]
The basis couldn't be easier: new blank flame, make #2 all disc and begin rotating it a degree at a time. Add tiny amounts of other variations to #1. To make square, add a polar FX and double its size. They look pretty rough on preview but a mid-quality test render reveals the detail

CabinTom In reply to IDeviant [2007-06-25 22:29:59 +0000 UTC]
Hmm... interesting! I could never get the hang of disc before... but that might be because I always tried combining it with other variations on the same transform. Thanks!

IDeviant In reply to CabinTom [2007-06-26 12:25:02 +0000 UTC]
I've recently picked up on a few of these new techniques and it's always surprising how simple the arrangement is. Disc is my current 'variation of the moment': most stunning of all with a JuliaN transform...

CabinTom In reply to IDeviant [2007-06-26 21:44:41 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, complexity of transform placement usually seems to muddle the whole thing up.

Thanks, man! I initially tried a muted metallic palette, but it was boring. Then I turned the saturation back up and allowed the lemon colour to get positively fluorescent - I reckon that helped a lot
