European garden spider, or at least that's what I think. The pattern on their back looks like a cross, so they have a name based on that here, though there isn't really a good translation. They're probably the biggest ones we have around here.Related content

I was 12 when he died. When I first found out at school I cryed. I don't like crying in public, but, I sobbed. I dreamed of meeting him. I was the only Kid that loves animal planet. Anyways, when I was 9 or 10 I saw a snake in a ditchΒ by a run down gas station and tried to pick it up like steve Irwin does. My mom and grandma had a fit. Crikey! XD

I never really cared a lot about his death, I mean, I remember watching animal planet, but I never really liked him too much I guess.

We have three kinds out snakes here, the one I have on my icon is harmless (also adorable 8D), the other one is harmless and extremely rare, and then there's a venomous one that can bite, but not deadly. So we're pretty safe here : D

It's named KryΕΎiuotis here, and the word for cross ir KryΕΎius, so it's pretty similar.
Anyway, no. I think they can bite if provoked, but they're harmless.
