The deviantART community is full of talented artists and art appreciators willing to pay for custom artwork. Today, we’re excited to announce that we’re launching Commissions on deviantART to all Beta Testers, a feature that connects artists with clients, creating custom artwork in exchange for real earnings.

Commissions is a Profile Page widget that allows artists to market their talents by advertising what they are available to create. Potential clients can easily send artists a Commission request, which an artist can either accept or reject.

Profits made through the Commissions widget can be withdrawn as real earnings -- through check, PayPal, or converted to deviantART Points.

Generate Real Earnings Through Custom Creations

1. List Commission availability on your profile
The Commissions Widget showcases your offerings, showing potential clients that you are accepting requests. These commission prices are based on deviantART Points , are set in increments of 10, and can range from 10 to 4000 Points.

2. Clients request Commissions
Commission requests are sent to the artist’s Message Center, allowing them accept or reject the request.

3. You receive payment, you deliver artwork
Artists can track their Commission transactions and generate real profit through My Earnings , garnering 80% royalty on each transaction. Earnings can then be withdrawn as a check, PayPal, or converted to deviantART Points.

Try it out!

All Beta Testers can now install the Commissions widget on their page, so give it a try by heading to your Profile ! Installed Commissions widgets are visible to everyone on deviantART, so you can offer your own commissions, and you can request commissions from your fellow artists as well!

Please note: Currently, the Commissions widget can only be installed by Beta Testers, but everyone has the ability to request a Commission from Beta Testers during this testing period.

If you encounter any bugs or issues, please file them in the #devBUG  Issue Tracker under the Commissions  project.

eeeh?? but if you asked for the commissioner again then they will lose their points 2 times right?? ;-;

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

To-Yo In reply to NemoraFarraige [2015-08-13 08:38:59 +0000 UTC]

nope! the points stayed in their account the first time they paid and it didn't work, so they didn't lose any points
nothing was transferred to my account automatically either when the problem was fixed so they only paid what they were supposed to

eeeeh?? but urm, it's that
when you accept the commission, isn't deviantart already take the point from the commissioner???

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

To-Yo In reply to NemoraFarraige [2015-08-13 10:21:32 +0000 UTC]

uh i think it shouldve gone like this
i accept the commission, and then the points get transferred from her account into my account, where they appear in my earnings with the 20% reduction fee,
but when i accepted her commission request, there was a bug that caused it to not process correctly so the points stayed in her account

Hi there! When setting up your commissions, click the "Add Media" button, then select deviations from your gallery, and they'll be included automatically. I hope that helps!

Sugary-Stardust In reply to ??? [2015-07-25 09:39:43 +0000 UTC]

How can I delete previously-listed commissions? I need to edit prices and examples and such, and it would be such an ugly, massive mess if I simply added them; however, the widget has no editing options?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ikazon In reply to Sugary-Stardust [2015-07-26 04:53:12 +0000 UTC]

Hi there! If you edit the widget on your profile, you should see pencil buttons on each individual listing, and you can edit them from there. I hope that helps!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sugary-Stardust In reply to ikazon [2015-07-26 05:03:38 +0000 UTC]

I don't seem to even be able to edit the widget from my profile; all I see is "Remove Widget". D:

ikazon In reply to Sugary-Stardust [2015-07-26 05:40:46 +0000 UTC]

Hmm. Try installing the widget to your page, save the changes, then reload your profile. Sometimes it doesn't display properly on the first go. :/

Heeeeello! Good afternoon! Just wanted to ask: I've installed the Commissions widget on my profile page, but the Request Commission button doesn't appear for some reason. What can the source of the problem be?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ikazon In reply to RubinBlitzKaiser [2015-06-15 20:51:21 +0000 UTC]

Hi there! The request button won't appear for you because there's no need for you to request a commission from yourself Rest assured, the button's there for anyone else who visits!

ACIDlC [2015-05-17 21:28:32 +0000 UTC]

Sometimes people donate points through the commission widget. but, then i get 80%. as an example: my friend wanted to donate 40 points. so she used the 40 point and 10 point widget. she told me she gave me 10+ points because she wanted to help me, but the 80% went off. i think that's a waste of her points.
also, i still haven't got these points. i do not really understand these commission widgets.

How do you link your commissions to other people?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ikazon In reply to BlueParadicey [2015-05-04 18:53:26 +0000 UTC]

You can direct them to your Profile Page. For the time being we don't have anchors for the Commissions widget itself, though we all agree that it'd be useful.

i opened a journal skin commission and two people bought them with the commission widget , but when i finished their journal skins and i checked my earnings it said this . "Incoming funds not yet available for withdrawal" and then under the status category for the commissions it said "Clearing in 14 days." what does this mean ? will i be able to get my money/points ? what happens after two weeks , do i lose my money/points ??

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ikazon In reply to qhostel [2015-04-07 21:50:39 +0000 UTC]

Hi there! That means after two weeks you can withdraw your earnings. There's a clearing period so we can ensure the system is being used properly.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

qhostel In reply to ikazon [2015-04-07 22:58:06 +0000 UTC]

but that has never happened to me before . last time i started doing this i never had to wait until now ??

ikazon In reply to qhostel [2015-04-07 23:51:59 +0000 UTC]

Did you use the Commissions widget previously? If so, then the same wait applied, that clearance period has been in place since before the Commissions widget was released.

keymayers [2015-04-01 17:52:35 +0000 UTC]

why is deviantart selling 400 points at like 40 dollars, but when i earn 400 points i get like 4 dollars? it's ridiculous.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ikazon In reply to keymayers [2015-04-01 18:30:15 +0000 UTC]

We sell 400 Points for $5 USD. The reason you get $4 USD on a 400 point commission is due to the 80% royalty rate, which you can read more about here .

AcryIlia In reply to ??? [2015-03-16 19:17:16 +0000 UTC]

if someone buy's a commission from you for for example 100 points, do the person selling it only get 80 points out of it? Where does the rest of the points go? why is it like this?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ikazon In reply to AcryIlia [2015-03-16 20:32:47 +0000 UTC]

There is a 20% royalty on commissions made through the Commissions Widget, and that's because the earnings from the commission can be withdrawn as real earnings. You can read more about it here .
