The deviantART community is full of talented artists and art appreciators willing to pay for custom artwork. Today, we’re excited to announce that we’re launching Commissions on deviantART to all Beta Testers, a feature that connects artists with clients, creating custom artwork in exchange for real earnings.
Commissions is a Profile Page widget that allows artists to market their talents by advertising what they are available to create. Potential clients can easily send artists a Commission request, which an artist can either accept or reject.
Profits made through the Commissions widget can be withdrawn as real earnings -- through check, PayPal, or converted to deviantART Points.
Generate Real Earnings Through Custom Creations
1. List Commission availability on your profile
The Commissions Widget showcases your offerings, showing potential clients that you are accepting requests. These commission prices are based on deviantART Points , are set in increments of 10, and can range from 10 to 4000 Points.
2. Clients request Commissions
Commission requests are sent to the artist’s Message Center, allowing them accept or reject the request.
3. You receive payment, you deliver artwork
Artists can track their Commission transactions and generate real profit through My Earnings , garnering 80% royalty on each transaction. Earnings can then be withdrawn as a check, PayPal, or converted to deviantART Points.
Try it out!
All Beta Testers can now install the Commissions widget on their page, so give it a try by heading to your Profile ! Installed Commissions widgets are visible to everyone on deviantART, so you can offer your own commissions, and you can request commissions from your fellow artists as well!
Please note: Currently, the Commissions widget can only be installed by Beta Testers, but everyone has the ability to request a Commission from Beta Testers during this testing period.
If you encounter any bugs or issues, please file them in the #devBUG Issue Tracker under the Commissions project.

So, can you sell commissions for points and NOT real money? Another thread I read said that you cannot receive points.. -u-'

Hi there! When using the Commissions widget, people requesting a commission will have to pay in Points. When the payment is made, it will show up on your Earnings page (which can be reached from the Shop menu), and will be put into a 14 day clearance period. Once that period has passed, the earnings can be withdrawn via check or PayPal, or as Points, should you want them there. Hope that helps!

Does the payment happen immediately or do I have to wait? Because someone ordered a commission from me for 1000 points, I accepted it but I didn't get any points. Will I have to finish the art work first in order to get the points?

When a Commissions payment is made, the earnings will show up on your Earnings page (which can be accessed from the Shop menu at the top of the site). There's a 14 day clearance period before you can withdraw your earnings, also. Hope that helps!

Aha, thank you! I'll have to bookmark that.
It's a shame it's so hard to get at now, though... anyone who doesn't know about it already won't be able to browse for commissions unless they add it back in somewhere.

It'll probably have a more noticeable place once it's fully launched; as far as I recall, the commission portal is still not open to everyone XD

Hi there! When someone commissions you, the payment will appear on your Earnings page . After a 14 day clearance period, you'll be able to withdraw them. This clearance period is to ensure that all transactions made are legitimate, so as soon as the 14 days have passed, you'll be able to withdraw.

I have taken many commissions and have completed many commissions to find out that I am not getting the points nor can I withdraw them.
The points have been taken from my commissioners but I do not have them personally. Must they click yes and say that the commission was finished
or am I not going to get the hard worked points?

Is this still just for Bata testers? Because I have the Widget installed and it says I have a commission showing when I click edit, but when I save it says 'No commissions have been listed yet. This module will be hidden from the public until commissions are added.'.

No, it's available to everyone! Once you've got the widget on your page, edit the widget and click the + button to start setting up a commission.

I'v done that. And it had a commission listed, but showing it. But now when I added another one it's showing that one but not the first one. So I made a cope of the one not showing and the copy and anything else is showing when I save. So I guess problem solved.

Please everyone remember that by using the commission tab you are granting 20% of your earnings to DeviantART for doing nothing but providing you an additional widget i.e. formatting.
I feel like this article is a little misleading in that it does not making that clear. If I am wrong, feel free to correct me, but thats what I'm seeing here and its really messed up. Paypal, an essential service in the transaction of commission goods, only charges 2%. I know saying anything isn't going to do a goddamn thing but I had to put that out there.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
jayerror In reply to Sapphirelullaby [2014-05-04 05:34:20 +0000 UTC]
It's the same thing with having premium content on your deviations as a way to pay for the transaction with points. (IE, upload watermarked version, pay the price to get high-res unwater-marked, etc.)
Well, I think the best way to 'beat this system'. Is not to use points for your transactions. Paypal only!
I think that this commission widget is organized, though.
