Description
This is pretty darn complete for the Terran Protectorate Stellar Navy.Warning: This is huge at full size.
I have a lot more appreciation for the work that goes into these things. I actually rendered these ships all together in one scene, which is why you can see the aspect change from top to bottom. It also means that some ships may appear to be longer, due to their width, but that's an illusion. I think next time I'll have to do a PNG of each one straight on, and then paste them all in as layers in GIMP. My eyes ache at the thought of it.
Enjoy, and let me know what you think.
All spacecraft designs and specs are copyright Irvin L. Jackson 2009.

This is some beautiful stuff right here. 👍: 0 ⏩: 1
I would prefer the Liberty Carriers myself. they look fast enough to stay out of effective range of anything that can threaten themselves and have sufficient fighter and drop ship capacity to rain all manner of pain on anything else worth launching a sortie against.
Mine would be the "TPWS Patrick Henry".
But then one ship does not a fleet make (the adventures of the Graff Spee are an excellent example).
To flush out the wish list and TaskForce ToE...
Begin Data Dump\
I. (1-3) Archers (one of which must be named 'Duchess' because i think its funny) for dedicated Combat Patrol and escort duties.
(allowing Liberty's to focus on strike craft and the support of same)
A. Each Carrier to have Escorts that excel in protection vs unmanned guided anti ship ordinance. (1 per carrier minimum 2-3 preferred)
II. Destroyer flotilla consisting of 2-5 vessels that:
A. are even faster than the fleet
B. use the above mentioned ordinance as they're primary attack mode
C. are small enough to evade detection at long range (ideally at attack range)
D. can provide an their own area of denial vs interceptors and their munitions
large enough to include attached fleet squadrons of Strike craft.
1.can provide Resue and Recovery for the strike craft mentioned above.
III. Possible auxilliaries include:
A. ftl capable transports for prize crews. Once they bring a prize to a friendly port/salvage yard I want them to come back to me.
B. Now that i think about it ... many ships dedicated to ECM would be required as well. 1 per carrier 2+ for the destroyer group
IV. Oh, and one more thing ...
Some kind of repair facility/ salvage cutter. Something that can fix something I broke and/or turn something I broke into useful spare parts/ammo/supplies.
And It has to be able to do this while mobile. It doesnt necessarily need to keep up with the fleet at combat speed but it does need to move and be harder to find than something that size would normally be. IF not, i guess thats what those dedicated ECM ships are for...
In theory I could maintain combat level of operations for as long as I have the Personnel to do it.
If necessary I can raid for everything else.
(this may limit the number and type of operations I can commit over a given time. But ill take that handicap if it allows me to operate at will with no supply line other than personnel replacement)
I would then happily spend the entirety of a conflict merrily committing acts of "state sponsored commerce raiding" while running away from whatever "ships of the line" the enemy wishes to commit to stopping me. It may not be heroic but it wins wars.
It may even be cheaper (in the long run) than operating and maintaining Especially when you factor in the value of prize vessels and their cargoes (except that salvage cutter. that may be about as expensive to build and crew as a Cerebus. )
Yes I fully realize how unlikely it is that Fleet HQ will sign off on this just on my say-so
\End DataDump
TL;DR One pirate ship turned into an of the cuff Fleet wish-list that ends up having a higher upfront cost than 2 Cerebus' but may end up paying for itself depending on the length of the conflict.

Check through some of my other art. I've got an updated version of this that breaks things down better. Also, there are a few images that detail typical task forces and fleet composition and deployment. Here are a couple.

Not of them all together, but there are various views scattered throughout my library of a lot of them, particularly in the "ships" gallery.

these would be amazing as a model pack mod for a space sim game, like X3TC

Seeing the Cerebus with the other ships really gives you perspective. Damn that thing is huge. Brings to mind a Monty Python line, "Run Awaay"

Yeah, they are, but the question is whether you can take what it dishes out. I imagine it would be one of those situations where you plan your attack with confidence in the planning session and calculate your losses...but when you actually realize you're about to get in range of a station that outguns a small fleet, that's when it suddenly becomes "pucker time."

The cerebus may be huge, but the Hastings is the one I like - huge and deadly, and ultra mobile - that spells hurt for the enemy everytime
