This is an inspiring and interesting tutorial. Bobcats are cool, I especially like how you did the markings on the fur and the eyes.

I wish I had tools to try this. Well, maybe this can be used with digital art too but my nerves aren't good enough when working with computer mouse :'D But this is nice tutorial and clear if you just concentrate in to reading that text with care. (and just don't jump word to word like I usually do when reading something)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

illustraTou In reply to dinnea [2009-06-14 13:52:42 +0000 UTC]

I agree with you, because digital art doesn't have any senses of 'original emboss strokes' that come out from traditional painting. I'm not strict with digital arts (because I'm character concept artist for some movies) but having a skill in fine arts are more important with me. Because EVERYONE could learn digital arts, but the original and core skills are build up within traditional arts. ^^

You are working with mouse? Whoa... I'm using wacom but still lack of skills...
>.< that's why I prefer traditional than digital to show off what I've got.

And thanks for your compliment and care, Dinnea... I was trying to paint Alaskan Malamut but didn't have any great inspiration lately; because I've been overworked for several weeks. *phew...*

dinnea In reply to illustraTou [2009-06-14 19:17:49 +0000 UTC]

Yup, I use mouse because I have no tablet. First I want to get better camera and then maybe tablet. Maybe I win lottery and can buy them both :'D

I have no nerves to do traditional art, with computer it's esy to go backward if you do mistake but in traditional it's so much more diffucult. And it's also annoying because I don't have scanner either, so drawings totally die when I take picture of them : D

That's so nice you even try. Hopefully you get your inspiration back and can work with your art again without too much work at same time :>

illustraTou In reply to dinnea [2009-06-15 18:41:33 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the faves so far, Dien.

Hmm... I see, but you're truly good in mouse, I've seen thru your gallery.

I knew the capabilities of computer arts, my dear, I once worked as a concept artist working with photoshop and 3D tools for movie such as Underworld, that is why my subjects are around wolves or fangs like that. But it was years ago, my CG team are dismissed and now I'm back as a traditional artist to feed my living.

Well, for your request, I'm almost doing it right know, but with the oil and there shall be lot of art request for my commercial works too, but you will never disappointed of me, I promise you, dear.

dinnea In reply to illustraTou [2009-06-20 09:33:27 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I haven't answered anything to this yet. Me and my great memory

Thanks for that. Photoshop's pen tool helps a lot with lining when using mouse. It's main reason why I do my digital drawings with CS3 and not Elements which I have too.

I just adore good traditional painters more. Yesterday i tried to do something with watercolours, but well I think they aren't my thing. It looked as good as maybe some child could easily do :'D Of course with practice it would change, maybe.

Feel free to do those commercial works first. I just love to see any of paintings you've done. They're pretty but i have to stop me not to add everyone into my faves, otherwise I have my fave list full of your works and little bit from the others : D

I want to ask you. Many People say to me, What my art not "Life", and I see it too. How you think why, and what I must to do?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

illustraTou In reply to goodwolf [2009-06-16 17:26:42 +0000 UTC]

Well... maybe (in my opinion); you should get close to the nature first.

I mean, this was sounds crazy, but to paint wolves, you should get bitten by them first (okay, that is just metaphor) but in my experience, I get bitten by one of them.

I think you are just not feel them, feel your objects' true nature,
first: draw eggs, when it looks like the real shapes (with strokes and shading), so your done made them alive in your paper. Maybe if you had a torrent, I will send you painting tutorials.

illustraTou In reply to goodwolf [2009-06-17 17:23:42 +0000 UTC]

Not really met into the wild, it's at the zoo, safari tracks in my country.
I open my window from my car (to feed one of those wolves) and then one of them suddenly bite me, my hand... palm... Really hurts but, I don't care, I still open the window to even get close to see their fangs and threatening eyes; my mom slap me and said that "you wretched fool! You almost get nailed!" and I just smile with silly face and bloody palm. -__-

illustraTou In reply to goodwolf [2009-06-17 17:33:28 +0000 UTC]

No... It's very fine! I could sense the wild side of the wolves through my nerves and blood. And that's why I most fall in love to those creatures.

I got rabies maybe. Artistic pain.

illustraTou In reply to goodwolf [2009-06-17 17:47:15 +0000 UTC]

Hey, just don't do that, seriously pain through your vein, my friend.

Just act normal, draw or paint near them, if they're about to run away from your presence, capture them with your camera, but life drawing is the best and perfect choice to me instead draw from ref or photos.

It different things the Wolf more cool then dog. And I don't have a dog and friends who have a dog too

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

illustraTou In reply to goodwolf [2009-06-17 18:21:54 +0000 UTC]

Ow... yeah, dogs are nicer to us even they are barking at us if you've been spotted that you are a stranger in their eyes, but wolf is extremely cool, not too much barking, just act. Silent as shadows also, if they spot you: 2 things on their mind: enemy or prey.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

goodwolf In reply to illustraTou [2009-06-17 18:30:50 +0000 UTC]

No, they very rare attack on people, and if the not feel enemy in you, you can come up to they and touch they. Very more people do it. You can see it in BBC or Discovery programm. And This project exist in russia too, and I see more people who touch and play with they

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

illustraTou In reply to goodwolf [2009-06-17 18:39:36 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, maybe in my country, wolves are such in the strange and inhabitant place for them or something more like that and they'll feel nothing but danger and threatened by our presence. Wolves habitual is different from each zones.

If people hunt them down for their furs, so they'll see us as their enemy.
Because of that, in that zoo, I've been bitten by one of them while the others are not in particular manner to attack me.
