Description
Theodore suddenly found himself in a depthless looking room. He seemed to be floating in a place that stretched on forever, and felt a cold sweat break out on his face. He reached to the left and found he could not move, not even an inch. Now he was starting to panic. Theodore flailed about manically, waving his arms and legs in a ridiculous fashion. Then he felt a presence, a powerful presence that oozed power. Its feeling was overwhelming, as it forced its way into his mind. He tried resisting, and succeeded in doing so for three seconds. Then he heard the voice. It came as a whisper at first, like it was from far away, but it soon surrounded him.“Do not fear me. I am peace. I am salvation. All that must be done is believe, and submit to the gods.”
It seemed to come from nowhere and everywhere. Most unusual was the voice seemed to be made of many.
“You have a strong will, though it will do you no good. You might be able to fight for a time, even though poorly. But you can only quaver in fear of what shall come.”
Theodore gathered all the courage he could and questioned the aberration.
“Who are you?”
The presence seemed to literally wriggle in his mind. It was laughing.
“I? I am one who has dreamed of revival. I am the one who has waited for this moment eons before your kind crawled out of its stone holes!”
Theodore was deeply confused at this answer and, more confidently, queried further.
“What are you?”
He felt his mind spin as the thing began to twist his mind every way it could.
“I am a watcher my creators left behind. I am what your kind feared when it first saw the heavenly body your planet was shined upon by.”
Theodore closed his eyes against his will and saw. A shadow that enclosed him and began smothering him. He felt lost and cold within it, he was now very afraid even though he tried not to be. He knew it was foolish, how could someone fight against thousands of years of preprogrammed fear. The fear of darkness.
“When our kind met yours you saw us as something that was to be praised with all your soul. And you feared us for our affinity with the thing that rendered you helpless!”
“You don’t scare me!” Theodore cried out defiantly. It laughed vocally.
“Fool! I know you fear me. It is like a beacon of shadow in a blinding light. I can taste it! It tastes… mmmmmm…. delicious!”
He tried to open his eyes and found that he couldn’t.
“Will you put me down and talk to me face to face!? Or will you continue to mock me?”
“No I will not. But I will taunt you. There are so many flaws to reveal!”
“Your nothing more than a pitiful representation of what made you!”
“Arrogant creature! Before our departure your kind worshipped us as GODS!! And you shall do so again!”
“Who were those who made you?”
The presence, who Theodore now suspected was an A.I. (Artificial Intelligence), suddenly caused him to feel depressed. He thought that perhaps he felt what it felt.
“My makers were incredible beings of eternity. Their Empire stretched across many galaxies and stood undisputed until they left. They became gods while your kind had just begun sticking reeds into mud pies!!”
“We have come a long way since then!” Theodore protested, “Our greatest minds have guided us through the millennia’s, and great leaders showed us the way to prosperity. All you did was sleep in this tomb of stone!”
“You have progressed!? HA HA HA HA HAAA!!! Everything you have ever made, anything you ever created, believing that it is a product of your ‘great’ minds, is nothing more than stolen thoughts and memories!!”
Theodore couldn’t believe it. He wouldn’t believe!
“Lies! Nothing but worthless lies!!”
“Lies in your eyes, truth in mine. You refuse to allow yourself to accept what is, and reject what isn’t. I can’t comprehend how painful it must be to know your entire existence is nothing more than stolen one!”
Theodore’s mind felt as though it would explode as the A.I. began showing him images of unbelievable scale.
“Witness what my creators had known as a simple fact while your so called ‘greatest’ minds puzzle over with no hope of success!”
Theodore saw the country he resided in as it began to swiftly pull away. Then Earth, then the solar system, then their portion of the galaxy which was on the Milky Ways eastern fringe. It pulled out further still and he saw his galaxy along others, and it became a speck against thousands. He saw that the galaxies were grouped close together in oasis’s of light surrounded by seas of darkness. The sight continued to slide away farther and Theodore witnessed that these clusters of galaxies began to form a gentle curve and finally the movement ended.
“You see? We possess a level of knowledge and power that you could never know, much less comprehend.”
Theodore began to feel the presence slip from his mind, and the force exerted on him lessened.
“What? No!! You will not escape so easily!”
But he continued to feel himself leave the dreadful place.
“FINE!!! You will leave for now! BUT YOU CANNOT HIDE FROM WHAT IS TO COME!!!”
Theodore felt himself on a cold and hard metal floor. He looked up with bleary eyes and stared at Sarah’s face. She looked like she was trying to tell him something but he quickly slipped into unconsciousness.
