Great choice for a first shot.
From my experience with this lens, it's quite capable of being much sharper than is being shown in this image (and your ant image). I'm not sure if your intent was a 'softer' capture, but the final result is quite pretty, nonetheless.
I'm glad you're enjoying the lens.
I've started using this lens with an off camera flash, and it's helped heaps with my shot options.
