All of Ileana's life, she'd been quiet and shy. Even amongst her many siblings, she couldn't say she had true friends growing up. It wasn't until her eventual husband came and swept her off her feet that she had a friend. He was her best friend, the one she could say anything to, and would in turn tell her everything.

And then he committed the most terrible crime she could ever imagine. One moment he was there, and the next, he was gone. A traitor. Her life, and the life of her son, was turned upside down forever, and she felt more lonely and isolated than ever, to the point where she felt she had to leave the only home she had ever known.

Yet one light in this dark period was Deborah. Though Ileana did not know the grey wolf well before she fled to Aryn, she had been grateful for her understanding and honesty. And each meeting after reaffirmed this. And when she returned to Mhor, determined to start life anew even as hers waned, Deborah remained a source of motivation and inspiration. Ileana felt like, perhaps, she had a best friend once again.

And so to say goodbye, even under much more pleasant circumstances, left an ache in her heart that was all too familiar to the old wolf. Yet it hurt worse than she remembered. And as she watched Deborah leave with her mate and children, Ileana couldn't help but feel like this would be the last time she set eyes on anyone she could truly call a friend.

Little did she know the worst pain was yet to come.
