Hi There!
You have just earned yourself an O.D.D. feature ! congrats!
ODDS (oibyrd's daily deviations) are to honor the sometimes overlooked artists of dA that I personally think deserve some exposure (and ALSO, to show off people who I think are undeniably talented in their own genre of art, REGARDLESS of their #'s of fav's or pageviews. I like what I like and sometimes artwork isn't featured in the regular DDs because it's popular all on it's own It's a shame, but the admins are only trying to be fair! ). Please click the link below to see your work featured and to view other featured artists . If you prefer not to be a featured artist, just send me a note and I will remove you from the list. Cheers! Sandi xoxo

This is absolutly beautiful. The toning and the contrast of lines from the cloth and the curves in your body are stunning.
An amazing shot.

lovely, I thought it was digital till I looked, it's so minimalist.
Shouldn't it simply be classified as Photography > Art Photography > People & Portraits > Artistic Nude as that's the DA rule for nudes?
Would help people find it too!

This image is simply stunning. I absolutely love her expression, and the fact that she looks like she could as easily nod off as tell you to switch that damned camera off and come back to bead .
All in all, this is easily a favorite; this is exactly the kind of shot I've always wanted to take with a female model. Very well done.

This one allready came through nicely tumbnail size. But it wasn't her body that made it pop out, it where the tones and the soft image that really made this special. Enlarging it to full size makes it almost perfect, I don't even mind the small details of the interior, it all fits the setting and the light is just awesome.
ps. If her mind is as beautiful as her body then she's one in a million.

On a lighter note, critiques can be positive.
Just not a lot of people here critique properly. Most of the time its "I love it" or "You're amazing" or something in the like. Brown nosing to be precise.
But back to the picture. I love the expression she has, or rather lack of it. What I really must give you credit for, is getting the picture done with that light arrow point at her, just above the shoulder. Did you time that? Cause its fantastic. Really makes you focus on her...

The nude form, whether it be in study or in still life, will always be my personal favorite form of art. Starting with the clasical studies of the Greeks and Romans, to todays stark modernist images by people like Helmut Newton, nothing like the nude really brings the human animal right to the forfront of our minds. One is forced to contemplate so much in the brief moment one studies it. Some will think purile thoughts, some will admire it as one admires any and all of nature, and some will have their pre-conceived notions of "decency" challenged. It is the nude that draws my most critical eye. I try desperately to lend all my nudes an air of seriousness. Whether it be intended to arouse and titilate, or induce contemplation of the beauty of the human form, respect for the subject and the total image is always paramount. Otherwise people will always misinterpret your intentions no matter what they are, or worse, be confused. Confusion in art breeds distaste with the viewer (this is why you either love or hate Jackson Pollock.) Seeing your other work, I am confused by this peice. And I care enough about it simultaneously to want to say so much about it. First off, she absolutely beautiful, the tones make her skin look soft as silk and so very pleasing. I can't help but think how pleasant it would be to touch and feel the curves displayed. But then i look at her face, is she bored, is she indifferent, is she frustrated? She is exhibiting anything but something that would accentuate the before mentioned description of her form. Her surroundings are also littered with little bits of unecessary things. The power cord for example, makes the image seem just a little seedy and is compacted by the exposed, bare pillow. So now the nude has a setting, and that setting sets a tone to compliment the facial expression, drawing me further from the pleasing shape of her form and soft skin. The curvature of the sturcture on the left leads the eye away from the face and directly to the diamond of light at the top which adds nothing to the image, neither does the black rectangle on the right. I don't want to sound overly critical, but when you approach a nude, ask yourself if all the things in the frame add to the image or do they do nothing for it. If they do nothing for it, take it out, or make it work. My early work was very similar, and i saw these very mistakes in my own art and knew they didn't treat the subject with the respect they deserved, and I was often embarrased to show the final result to the model from fear that she might think I just wanted to be some perv and take her "nudie" portrait. I knew if I wanted to continue to get beautiful women to model for me I would have to show them previous work that made them see their own beauty and that also showed my attention was to the overall image and not just a naked girl in a room. Do some figure studies, place the model in a neutral environment and focus just on her shape, get comfortable with it and the model. I always do a figure shoot days or weeks before I do a scenic, this to get both me and the model comfortable working in what could be a situation in which someone could be taken advantage of and to create a fealing of trust and comfort. This also gives me a good idea of their personality when nude (which can be extrordinarily different from the same person clothed) and is very important to me in treating them with respect. The next time we do something more elaborate involving a setting I can forget about the nude and focus on the setting and be sure they both compliment each other. When I have not done this kind of prep work, i find my nudes to be overly stark, not very well thought out and confusing (and I have far more mistakes on rolls than I have successful ones)
I love this image alot, because even with what I have said, I can see your intentions and that sometimes can speak loads about what an artist meant to say even if the language is unrefined. Pleased keep it up, I want to see more of what you can do and know you can do it.

Great. I am glad you understood where I am coming from. As for finding models, man if I knew that, I would have a huge collection. As it is, I almost always use friends or friends of friends. And I am always afraid when asking that they will think I am a pervert. But seeing as they have usually seen my work, and know the model involved, this has actually never been an issue and I am just overly-worried. In fact, I usually find they are either flattered that I think they are beautiful enough to make art from or they offer to model without me having to ask. Unfortunately, since I moved 6 years ago, it's harder to find them without such a strong network of friends to pull from. Having a female assistant can be a great boon to. My wife usually shoots with me, or sometimes I get a previous model to come and offer assistance. Having a second woman around can sometimes make the model more comfortable. But it can also sometimes make it worse, ask the model if that would be to her liking. Good luck, and if your serious it will show and it will get easier to find them.

i've been letting it be known in my circle of friends and acquaintances that i'm looking for models, and i've gotten some positive responses...they've seen my portfolio and see that i'm serious about it. So we'll see what happens there. If i get another chance, i'm going to be prepared. I have purchased a bunch of lighting equipment on ebay so that wont be a mitigating factor anymore.
I will heed your comments when i get to do another shoot. thanks once again

oh my goodness. dude, you put more work into this comment than i put into this shot i believe
and i agree with everything. About her facial expression, she wasn't frustrated, but she wasn't loving the camera either...she was my girlfriend at the time and just lying there, and i was mesmerized by the way she looked in the sunlight, so i quickly cleared the blanket from the bed and grabbed my camera. literally, from conception to execution took maybe 2 minutes. i made a few other snaps, but this is the only one i really liked, for the lighting and how it accentuates her womanly curves. so it was a totally non-contrived nude portait, the only nude portrait i have ever released. however, it is an area that i have always admired, the incredible amount of flexibility in ideas you can have once you're on a roll. So, while it's hardly present in my gallery, i hope more will follow soon. it's just always an easy task to find a suitable model (without going to an agency)
thanks for the essay on this shot, it's not overly critical, in fact i encouraged advanced critiques, and you delivered! i'll definitely have your thoughts in my mind the next time i get around to doing some nude portaits.

hehe....well the peculiar thing is, once a girlfriend becomes an ex-girlfriend, they become somewhat less willing to want to be with me, let alone pose nude for me...doh.
but i'm working in my model pipeline, so soon i'll be doing some interesting shoots i hope...in the meantime just keep inspiring me and making me jealous! hehe
