Description
Hi there!Today I felt like leaving my comfort zone, which is painting of environments. After watching the last tutorial from Dianae, I really had the urge to do a character painting on my own.
Here's the link to her da-site: [link]
In case Diane passes by: "Merci beaucoup!!"
The image was entirely painted in Photoshop CS2 (yes, ... I'm still on it) and the original size measures 3565 x 2148.
I might consider submitting it as print depending on the feedback ...
Make sure to view the image in full-size!
Comments and critiques are very welcome!
Thanks for viewing,
Dan
Update: I've corrected some issues I've found in her face and also the overall color correction, since my monitor at home has a weird gamma setting. Still not sure, if it's working ...

For this not being in your comfort zone you certainly did an amazing job!
Reminds me a lot of Luis Royo... one of my favorite artists Amazing work!

Oh my god. That is amazing! The hair detail is truely amazing, along with the skin texture, shading and everything else.
Freaky shadows, really good contrast - nice idea.

Incredibly impressive. I love the color, tone and mood. The details like the blur and sharpness in certain areas are nice touches.

Pretty cool for a first attempt^^
I especially like the noise all over the piece, but the upper lip looks like made of granit...

this is truly beautiful! Love the eye colour (almost like mine!)
the background is really great too - it has such great texture.
She looks kind of .... forlorne.
The only thing that bothers me at all is her upper lip. It looks sort of ... muddy.
Everything else has amazing detail though - the hair, the eyes, the wrap on her shoulders.
Great job!

Wow. The colours and the grittiness of it seems really reminiscent of some of Louis Royo's work. Very nicely done! The colours around her face, however, look a bit odd in just a few places... like the reddish colouring of the face leaked into the hair a little too much, especially around the ear and neck. I'm guessing you did this mostly in greyscale with colour in a separate layer? It looks fantastic - that was pretty much the only thing I saw that looks like it could use just a little neatening up. Bravo, I'm really impressed with the amount of detail you've put into this!

Thanks a lot for the kind and helpful comment!
I indeed had some trouble with the colors and changed it several times and yes, I did use a separate layer in color for some correction.
Unfortunately I went sloppy there. I'll pay more attention to it in future! Thanks for the advice!

Not only have you painted a great portrait, but your subject is expressing heaps of emotion - and the background just adds so much atmosphere. Art works when emotions are aroused in the viewer - This one works! Well done!

Greatly done, I notice some little disproportion on her right eye, but it doesn't matter, I'm sure you've put maximum effort in it, and it really looks great.
