Description
There was a child, a perfect child, as life was perfect in her eyes. This child was feared by the adults around her, dragging chains behind them
Three times they asked the child to stop being so happy, three times she smiled
They knew they could not control her joy, who could, joy has only a source
That which they could control needed endings, they mused
How would they limit her hope when they could not control it?
How would they control her faith when they could not hold it?
How would they spy on her joy when they could not see it?
They came to a very wise, very profound conclusion
They could not limit the unseen, control the ephemeral or watch the invisible
But
They could control, limit and spy on their OWN chains
So, knowing the girl would not be controlled...they convinced her she already was
They swore the moments she was tired was because of the chains she didn't see
That the moment she was confused was because of the knoweldge she lacked
All times she was hesistant was because of the fear she did not feel
After time and times, the girl started beliving them, not having a reason to doubt
To this day, does she slow herself so as not to get ahead of her invisible chains
To this day, she wonders why she still can't hear them
Even though everyone else swears they can

only when you realize that if you can't see it, it isn't really there and just because they say it doesn't make it true can you REALLY see that you have been betrayed by the ones who said they were there to help you

If I lived by that credo, I'd be unable to live at all, by my definitions. If humanity did, well....we'd still be throwing stones in fear of our own shadows. In my imagination, every advancement beyond a certain pain or discomfort humanity has achieved has occurred through realization of that which ISN'T visible, becoming that which is.

I come only from the images, words, sensations, emotions and blood of the places and people who've come before me. Shakespeare, Tolkien, Lewis, Rice, Asimov, just to name a few. Their words made me into what I wanted to be, gave me strength to make my own destiny and follow my own path. It's not happiness. It's just knowing, feeling, being. After all, you don't have to see something to believe it's there. Do you?
Of course, there's always making possible what's only probable.

To which I would say, if only what was probable was made possible, would humanity have ever reached the moon? Ever flown? Ever even crossed a single ocean?
Beautiful words never the less.

I aspire to such things every day. But today, I have a head cold. We'll talk again next week.
