lolWhen I first saw Rango, I was soooo amazed by it, but when I saw what it was rated I was like
Wat the hell!?! Rated PG!?!
There's freakin mild violance, foul language, smokin and some other stuff that makes this movie awesome [PUT IT AS PG-13!!!!!]
So! As you can see I'm reading the rating papers from the "director" with Rattlesnake Jake, and yea he's also agreeing wit me too

yeah! in fact, rango ia a very good movie, my little cousin was fascinating with the change of humor XD. Ñam... i think that a problem was the politician point of view. Anyway, great pic! i love Jakeee!!!!

Though ratings seem to wobble from time to time, they're based on a set of strict rules. However, they can vary, and there are exceptions to every rule. (Minor Spoilers below)
In Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, they stab an eyeball and pluck it from a creature's eye, and later Alice decapitates another creature and drinks its blood. The reason they got PG is because it fits under "Fantasy Violence"... if the same actions were performed on Human characters, they would have easily received an R. Some things like showing topless women briefly would warrant an R, but exceptions can be make if it's not for sexual reasons (Like the CPR scene in Abyss or indigenous natives in Anaconda).
Then again, any G film could instantly become PG-13 just for that using the F word once... use it too much and get an R. Even the new movie "Hop" crossed from G to PG for little more than vague references to minor innuendos (Less than an episode of Animaniacs has).
I've been studying the MPAA rating system for a decade or so. The rules change often, and the rating system has changed over the years. There are countless articles all over the internet about the inconsistency and interpretation of films and their ratings.
Anyway, if you'd like, I can suggest a site that reviews films and reports each instance of profanity, drug, sex, violence and offensive material in each film (mostly without spoiling it).

One of the reasons why it's PG because of rude humor.
The rude humor doesn't even compare to the language and violence.
And yes, changing the rating to R is a bit of an overreaction in my opinion.
At least there was no gore, drug-usage, nudity or sex...unless you count the moment when Jake licks Beans but even so that's pretty tame compared to other sex scenes.
But all in all, I loved the movie and I loove Rattlesnake Jake!

Kids are way too sheltered these days.
I grew up on Westerns. Wild Wild West, Bonanza, Rawhide, etc...
I find it sad that all kids get to watch nowadays is all crap.

Most parents are offended by the content of Rango, my parents were outraged to hear that. My parents loved it. I'd seen way worse when I was a kid.

People often forget what PG means. PG means Parental Guidance Suggested. In other words, the parents should watch the film first to see if the content is appropriate for their children.
If it was rated G, for General Audiences, then yes, we'd have something to bitch about.
