Description
Bit of conceptual design for Bibliotech . On the Wall it's sometimes necessary to travel long distances along "roads", which are really just cleared and relatively flat, wide paths surfaced by the same hard stone that the Wall is composed of. Really, just an excuse to put my characters on cool vehicles for some road warrior action at some point. I don't plan to take this particular illustration any farther at this point, so I'm tossing it with my "clean and finished design sketches".Everything I know about motorcycles pretty much came from watching American Chopper and so on, which means, of course, that I know fuck-all. I am, however aware of a couple things: I have no idea how the engine really works or should look (gosh, maybe I should use some reference!! What a concept!! >_< ), and those long-ass forks are really impractical, no matter how cool I think they look.
Feel free to rip me on the design, add any suggestions or tips about motorcycles, and let me know what you think.

Heh. Impressive, yes! Practical? Probably not...
Still, if'n I makes it big someday, I'm gonna want to talk to some custom chopper guys.

You have got to do an ink/coloring of this. It would be a waste not too!

Ah, I'd like to. I expect it won't be inking/colouring THIS particular image, but the design will get used in something else that is more finished.

I think that was a reference to my lack of actual knowledge regarding motorcycles, their form and function, because about 99% of what I know about 'em came from watching that TV show. It's a fun show to watch, and I love some of the bikes they created, but it's not the best thing to rely upon if you don't already know some things about bikes, or engines and motorcycle physics in general.

the forks are decently braced, so really it's only troubles would be at low speed turning or tight turns. I've seen a few springers that have about the same length or fork. But with the desing of a springer thiers would have comparativly more flexing.
any way it's looked at, this is a badass bike

but enough of my bitching. This is AWSOME!! Im such a fan of the long choppers, and I want one like this. I give you much thumbs up

Awsome design, I would love to see this built, that is an insane amount of rake, the turning radius would be horrible, but as you say its ment for long distance. It would look beautiful on a long stretch of road

Holy Moly! Full Throttle! From Lucasarts, circa 1995! My favorite computer game ever! This is giving me vibes straight from that game. Abso-total-lutely excellent. Any chance this was inspired by it? Any chance you'd ever do more variants?

Ever since I played Full Throttle (my favorite game ever), I've been dying to sorta create a character in that universe. That bike...well, that's pretty much what my dude would ride. Perfect platform for assorted ass-kickery. Gotta say - thanks for making it.

its a cool design although it looks like you are using a radial engine....not a very commen setup,..the double fork front end is also very unique although it probably would work fairly well in real life,,,,kind of an extreme version of the old girder springers,,your exaust system is cool and your controls are in the right place...the idea of the hubless wheels is really cool...although not all that practical i myself use them alot on my designs please feel free to check some i have a couple posted

MAN! that is one cool bike. i jus started and thought i might post up my bikes too, but they dont seem to compare to this bad boy ( the bike i mean). Funnily enough, american chopper and rides were what got me crazed about the motor and chopper industry, plus i love making stuf wid heavy machinery.
May be you could give me some advice on the way my choppers look.

Naw, I made it all up as I went. My advice is to look at lots of real-world bikes, and know enough about bikes to know what looks a certain way because it has to, and what looks a certain way because someone likes it that way (for instance, on motorcycles you kinda have to stick to a certain kind of frame and so forth, but you can mess about a lot with the shape of fenders, gas tanks, etc), and that'll help you design.

Love all the work you do, I had a thought, that you can take or leave. I was watchin'an inventor show on Discovery Channel ( can't recall the name) and I saw someone had built a one wheel motorcycle, the driver sat in side the giant wheel , and i thought it looked very slick and futuristic, i was thinking that you copuld trick out the design a bit more, add some spiky bits and gun bits to it and use it as your Wall Crusin' Monocycle...( of course the idea might be trite but it doesn't hurt to make a sugestion)

Inkthinker In reply to Nod-Godfrey [2006-01-06 22:49:52 +0000 UTC]
It might still be in my Scraps, but I got a monocycle design in there somewhere. You probably saw Kerry Conran's V8 monster monowheel, which is pretty neat. It's a terribly impractical design because inertia tends to force the interior wheel to rotate when the outer wheel is restrained (like, by brakes for instance), causing an effect called "gerbiling". But there's some South American companies that are custom-manufacturing monowheels for public purchase, and I think Conran build's smaller V4 models for sale.

As a fan of choppers of all sorts I like the general design. The only problem with such long forks is it would make it incredibly hard to turn without all but stopping. The engine looks fine, theres a belt and all that, and I'm not sure of the setting for this wall story you're talking about.
One thing I suggest is going to [link] and looking through their choppers for a couple ideas. They have one of the most radical ideas ever, a hubless rearwheel. I've yet to fully understand it. I believe its on the psycho cadillac bike, but I'm not entirely sure which one it is. But you'll know it when you see it.
And I'd watch out with the handle bars. Maybe raise them just a little so that when they were turning they wouldn't hit the tank.
But great job on the concept. It looks really good.

Also, you can try other exhaust tubes. Cut off, tapered, all kinds of shit. You'd be amazed by how much of a difference exhaust can make. Also try checkin around big chopper company sites. If ya need a couple you can get ahold of me on aim: noonion1985 or yahoo: no_onion1985 I have a lot of ideas for bikes, that one thing I'm planning on doing for a business.

Those hubless rear-wheel designs are incredible! I gotta do some research, find out how that works! Is it bearings along the rim or what?

Thanks for the link!
Yeah, the details here definitely need adjustment. And I think it's interesting how many bikes I've seen in magazines and so forth that look as though they have really extended forks, only to realize that it's just the angle of the photgraph. Some of the OCC bikes are pretty long, but I don't know if I've seen anything as silly as this.
Next time I use this, I'll do proper research on the engine design, as well.
