Yeah, well... not today. Or tomorrow. Or next week. But you know I'll keep it mind.

Yep. I think he's probably about the most exciting thing to come to martial arts cinema since Jackie or Jet. I hope he gets better platforms for his performances, though... the plots in his movies so far are a bit rough.

Snap, crackle and pop! Oh baby!

Meh. Sounds effects are sometimes better when they're not realistic. Like, if you've ever heard a real punch, it's a very muffled sound... sometimes you can barely hear it at all, what you more likely hear is the reaction of the person giving or receiving. But on TV and such it's always a crack or a smack, sometimes with a little subtle whippy noise right at the beginning.
So it's probably not accurate, but I'd put a nice celery-snapping crunch into this. Something to really make you wince.

รด_รด... woo...
like the motion, how do you keep the good propotion when you are moving the angle like this..
I mean it's raw but clean...

Every key frame is a drawing in and of itself. If the key drawings are correct, then the tweens which make up the action (and the motion) should also be correct.
To be fair, I really warp proportions a lot in this, but I do it with purpose. For instance, when the guy draws back before that nutcruncher I've not only drawn his foot waaay back, but it whips around that ankle like it's broken. You don't get to dwell on the details of this, however, because the frames last for about 1/25 of a second. And when played in sequence, the persistence of motion illusion results in a smooth action that reads even if it's not technically accurate.
Or in simple terms... it's a trick.

oh... so ok... i guess that the remdy is to work harder...
I see what kind of skills that you manking wand of animation + 17 could do.
take a look on this video, is that the same principe ? ( lastest sequence ) ( it's a animator too he did that for his comics who be out in january 2oo8 ).. r_r...

That's pretty cool... that's more of an animatic, a "moving storyboard" which is done to establish the action for a finished piece of animation. I like the action bits, but silhouettes are easier to animate than detailed drawings.
Not that I should talk, since I tend to animate a lot of scribbling.
I don't know so much about work harder... I like to try and work smarter, but often that's a lot of hard work too. The more you do it, the easier it gets to see where you should put the most effort to get the best results.

Thanks! That was really the original point of the thing... that, and I wanted to try and translate a move from a film into an action in animation, using a different angle and my own timing.
I think it worked okay.

Why shouldn't it be cathartic?!
Is that a film showing yourself cracking the nuts of somebody else against his judgement/will?
It doesn't look like that to me.
It's a drawing == it's cathartic.
It releases pent up distress that could have been released in other ways that could have hurt (psicologically, at least) others.
Rather than being rude to others, or stressing yourself you've made a series of drawings that has had the power of an exhaust tube with a filter releasing all the stress and anger for whatever reason into an harmless illustration that's actually funny. The illustrations themselves are the filter that has caught al the worst of the outburst thus the graphic violence. All the rest that has passed is just like filtered hot air, it disperses practically in an innocuous way, whatever was left of the initial stress that stayed in that "air" is still a lot less than what could have been.

Oh, I know... I was being largely facetious. I do often think it would be nice to get the same sense of catharsis from a non-violent expression, but that just doesn't seem to be the way people are wired.
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
butterfly-dragon In reply to Inkthinker [2007-08-29 18:23:03 +0000 UTC]
well... some connection is needed for a non-violent expression to give vent to stress and other violence-inspiring (be it verbal or physical) emotions.
For example if you hate the carebears, then simply drawing them and imagining all the various ways that they could blow up or be killed could give some degree of outlet, but actually drawing them being fragged in multiple ways gives a better vent.
my violent 2 cents
