Why has this happened?

This should not have happened.

We should not be losing. We cannot be losing.

How are we losing this battle?

We are strong. Our opponent is not. How is it that they are beating us? This should not be possible. The stronger side always wins, am I not correct? That is how it always has been in the past... why is it different now? Why now? Why us?

Have the gods forsaken us? They are not cruel. We have gained much glory and honor fighting in their name, in their stead. They grant us protection, and we praise their names. Why have they allowed this to happen?

My comrades and I were brothers. We trained together, we fought together, we cheered when we were victorious together. Trained to fight, trained to kill. The elite warriors of our army, the best of the best.

And now, all but I lie dead. How? Why?

How can a weaker force possibly beat a stronger one? And in a head-on battle?
