Description I have different colours of dry pigment tempera paint. I also have a large paved patio in the back of the house where I live. I talked to my friend Kastalite about his digital submission [link] that made me think about trying some of the dried paint on the sidewalk. The above image is the result of lightly spraying water onto the powdered concrete with the garden hose and photographing the result. These are three separate tries, but I have combined them into one effort since it is an experiment. I have then added contrast, saturation and sharpness to bring out the shapes and colours. Sidewalk art.... and fun!!!

There are some digital filters, Gayle, that produce similar effects on a random basis. Looks like digital processing has its real world counter part. Good Experiment.

Gives others ideas, Gayle - these have been filed away in my "rainy day things to do" brain cell.

Cheers

I know it's all part of the creative process , sometimes it really comes up trumps and looks great fun . I think that artists ( in general ) are at times guilty of taking themselves too seriously and of being a bit introspective - I'm pleased to say that you are obviously not at that end of the scale . Keep on having fun and sharing it !!!!!!

Believe me I have thought of that. Concrete paint is so expensive here. The original concrete paint is wearing away slowly. It was a cream colour. I have had a hard time getting rid of it in some places. I used a pressure washer last. It was pealing 2 years ago, but some spots are sort of permanent. I wanted to polish the concrete if we were staying.

i would think that you could use a clear acrylic coating over you colorful paint, or maybe a concrete sealer, the kind that doesn't let it produce dust inside.

as for removing what is there...i don't know, it is so porous.

now if you really want a project, there is always small mosaic tiles. I've thought of doing this, but it would be a massive project and the largest mosaic i've done was 3 x 4, and i did it vertically on a wall.

I would have to have the entire area cleaned of the old paint first. Too much work and sweat for this time of year... maybe if we are still here when it turns a little cooler. A mosaic would be amazing, but very expensive and timely.

not expensive if you do it your self. Timely...yes

I don't know what to say about these, Gayle! Are they permanent or do you wash them away after you've finished? If they are ephemeral, then you're into the realms of Andy Goldworthy and the "installations" of leaves and twigs in the forest that he does. What would be really interesting to do is carry this out over some natural feature, take photos to record it and then wash it all away - rock art say!

Anyway, I'm all for experimentation.

Cheers

It is long gone David with the overnight shower. I would love to have something more permanent, but will keep experimenting for a while. Thanks for your generous comment.

It's appropriate, then, that it looks like a rainbow, and a psychodelic one at that.

I tend to agree. The paints were actually body paints. When Beau ordered them I was surprised how much actually came...lots. One day I will try them on a model. We have yet to get that down pat. That's will come later. In the meantime I am just experimenting. No, I won't paint Beau... I know that's the next question.

Gayle that is just neat and really fun on the eyes. i like the mixed media to create something original that couldnt otherwise exist.

Intergrativeone In reply to noctrop-d [2012-02-06 03:00:10 +0000 UTC]

You know it is mixed media. I must change that on how it reads. It was fun, and I learned how the paint reacts with the water, sun. and pavement. I also have colourful feet as a result!!!!! Thanks so much!!!
