Sluggo was an experiment. A few weeks ago I finished my Melbourne poster which was 100% vector art, it turned out well but I was left feeling unsatisfied; it was nothing I haven't done before but on a much more insane scale.

So I decided to move on to more painterly techniques like some of the work seen using Corel Painter... but I don't need that program since I have photoshop.

So I decided to make something with some glossy, slimy textures, something slick and illustrated with style. So I made a cartoon slug, it seemed appropriate. I was going to add a salt shaker but decided not to for now.

I attacked this with pure airbrushing and vector masks in Photoshop, the original black outlines were prepared in Illustrator however (but may have ultimately been unnecessary).

I think Sluggo represents a crossroads for me. Last year I never even touched Illustrator and a year later I made works like 'I Jumped' [link] or 'Melbourne' [link]

I can't even begin to imagine what I'll be capable of next year. Keep learning and keep practicing, kids.
