Description
I stared out the window of the black limo. My dark brown hair tied in a ponytail and my bangs brushed out of my eyes. I watched as rain hit the glass and elegantly slid across it. My black skinny jeans and white v-neck t-shirt allowing the cold to seep through. The heater controls were in front of me. but, I didn't care anymore. I wished the cold would consume me and leave nothing left. But, my body had once again betrayed me. Somehow making heat and sending it through my body.My mind whisked back to the rainy night when I sat by the window looking at the puddles and wishing I wasn't sick so i could go run through them. I heard a knock and ran over to the door abandoning my soft grey blanket on the couch.
I threw open the door to see two men dressed in old ripped clothing. The smell of dead animals and mud flooded into the room.
"Are your parents home?"
The one closer to the door asked. I nodded and ran to my parents room. I pulled at dad's sleeve and whispered
"someone's at the door"
he rolled himself out of bed kissing my mother on the forehead as he pulled his arm out from under her. And said
"be right back dear just have to get the door"
they had taken a nap because today was Saturday and we were all tired. We had skipped breakfast and dad told me to wake him up when it was time for lunch. And that he would serve me and mom in bed.
He ruffled my hair and stood up to walk around the bed. he stopped at the doorway as I slipped into the warm covers he left behind.
"Keep them warm for me"
he said then giving me a reassuring wink his light brown hair all messed up and his blue eyes still sleepy looking. the muscles in his chin tightened as he gave me one of his crooked smiles. then he turned his head and walked into the hall.
Mom propped herself up on her elbow her brown curly hair cascading off her left shoulder (the same side as the elbow propping her up) her hazel brown eyes still heavy with sleep and fighting to stay open. she gave me a sleepy smile as she tucked a strand of my shoulder length strait brown hair behind my ear.
"How can I help you?"
I heard muffled from the other room. Followed by a loud gasp and the word
"RUN"
mom quickly jumped out of bed and picked me up throwing me behind dad's dresser
(it was set up in the corner leaving an open triangular space that I often used for playing hide and seek as a kid.)
I quickly remembered my best hiding techniques I stood almost against the center of the dresser and burrowed my toes under one of dads t shirts that he left all over the floor.
"Stop"
my mother cried.
"Please just leave"
she said trying to stand bravely in front of the dresser. I could hear the footsteps on the carpet getting closer. I heard mom shuffle towards the bed. I peeked through the crack between the dresser and the wall to see her picking up some sort of black stick. I could hear them Draw closer and decided to move my face away from the side.
I heard a whack and then something hit the floor. I heard another each and then a stumble and then all was quiet for a moment. Then I heard what must have been my mothers body slide to the floor. I never heard anyone get back up. But I heard one of the men walk over to my parents computer desk. I heard the reminiscent
"slide thunk"
as the drawer was caut by the locks. I heard him pull on the other three all ending in the same
"slide thunk"
I heard a thwack and then a
"ahhh."
The man must have kicked the drawers.
I heard him quickly walk around the two bodies and towards the closet
(nearest to the door)
he threw open the doors and tried to push past all my mother's clothing where he probably found the gun safe I heard a loud
"crash"
as it probably fell over due to him trying to pull it open. I then heard sirens and the man said something rather nasty under his breath. he stopped and it was silent.
It sounded as if no one was moving. Until I heard him dragging blankets out from under the bed. It finally clicked in my mind that he was looking for me. And that he needed a hostage to get out of the house. He finally resorted to opening drawers in the dresser. I'm small for my age so i could probably fit in one
(I am turning 11 in a week)
I could feel a sneeze coming. This wasn't good. I plugged my nose and stopped breathing. I waited as he checked the last drawer. I heared my front and side doors slam open at the same time. Someone was coming to help!
"Miss!" I hear yelled at me from the driver seat. I flinch and turn my head towards the voice. "We're here" he said almost worriedly. " I looked back towards the windows noticing that we had indeed stopped and were in front of a white mansion that seemed to have more windows than walls. I slowly opened the door and walked out into the rain. I closed the door behind me and started walking up the driveway past many large decorative trees and bushes.
After I heard the sound of the car pulling out and driving away I walked to one of the bushes and crawled inside. I felt many sharp sticks scrape my skin and even more break under my weight. I flipped over on my back and stared through the leaves at the overcast sky. I could feel the few drops of rain that made it past the leaves land on my warm cheeks. Then I drifted off and fell asleep.
I woke up feeling like I was in a cloud. The world was too soft. I opened my eyes to indeed see piles of white. I pulled myself up into a sitting position and threw the thick white covers off my legs and slid out of the queen sized bed. My now bare toes investigated the thick white carpet. I could tell it was expensive. I turned to inspect the room that I could already tell I would come to hate. Across from the bed was a giant 3 piece mirror. I looked into it to realize I was now wearing a white frilly night gown. I inspected the room to find a dresser and a closet.
I walked over to the dresser and opened up one of the drawers. I freaked out and began inspecting the other drawers. After throwing half of the clothing on the floor an moving to the closet I realized not a single piece of it was my own clothing. My luggage was gone and nothing in this room was mine. Before I had time to react to this theft someone knocked on the door. I nearly jumped out of my skin. "Who is it" I whimpered.
