Description
My coloring tutorial done of my character Adel.FAQs
What did you use?
-Photoshop CS2 w/ a Wacom Intuous 3 Tablet.
Why Photoshop?
-I've had bad issues with Painter, Photoshop has a lot more tools and can have a lot of the same custom brushes. Photoshop is not the ultimate best choice, but it works the best for what I want.
Whats with the moles?
-THEY'RE BIRTHMARKS AND FRECKLES.
I can answer anything else if there are any questions.

Beg pardon, but... where would one get a skin texture from? Or any Photoshop texture for that matter?

Thanks for this, noticed a couple of unexplained gaps but a little experimentation is all it should take to figure out in my own unique style

I see that you change up your brush opacity depending on what type of coloring you're doing. Do you ever use pen pressure to manage opacity, or is it just easier to change it manually?

how do you make your lines so solid looking? Everytime I do it, the lines are soft and yucky looking. do you use pen for outlining? or is it just a brush?

ionen In reply to rikki00 [2013-07-15 22:31:44 +0000 UTC]
Might depend on the brush you're using. I use a solid brush in photoshop, it has a hard edge to it.

May I ask how did you make your lineart thinner throughout the process? And also since your line art was thick during the start; when you made it thinner did you have to fill in the spaces left by the thick lineart with paint? or were they already painter under the thick line art?
(sorry if it seems confusing)

If they're really rough lines, I'll do a new layer over and just redo the lines. Otherwise I'll trim them.

Sorry for the brand new comment..(Wanted to save your message, Haha) So you only used the brush tool to color and smudge? I cant seem to find out how you smudge things together is there a different brush tool you use for that? Sorry if Im bothering you, this is extremely helpful! Thank you so much for replying back.

ionen In reply to Uzucake [2013-06-04 13:50:19 +0000 UTC]
Smudging tools in general don't give you enough control. I blend by having a low opacity brush and brushing several times to create a gradient. Just the hard brush at 30-50% opacity. [link] Might explain a little better.

Ive reread this tutorial SO MANY times and I just dont get it. What brushes did you use to get the solid coloring?(The first step) And what tool did you use to smudge it together and make it look smooth and solid? (2nd step) When Im done with the first step I cant figure out how to smudge it together and make it flow. I end up trying to paint over it and it looks REALLY terrible. Ive been going around looking at different tutorials and NO ONE is being pacific about anything and I REALLY want some help. Im dieing to learn how to color like this in photoshop and I cant find anyone that talks about each tool they used and what settings its on. If you do ever read this message do you think you could help me out a little bit? It would be highly appreciated, your artwork is incredible!
