Description
This image is inspired by the famous 1904 J.M. Barrie play "Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up."Barrie portrays Tinkerbell as a magical creature, "exquistely gowned in a skeleton leaf, cut low and square, through which her figure could be seen to the best advantage." Barrie's Tinkerbell is a semi-erotic creature of apparent beauty, which hopefully, translates well in this piece. Through the lens of Steampunk, I have interpreted Tinkerbell as a mechanical-powered fairy to foil her magical characteristics. Her wings operate by a steam engine, powered by a candle, she lights up the room with an incandescent bulb mounted to her headband, fairy dust is distributed through her fireplace bellow a.k.a. the "dust-o-matic" and the "loveliest tinkle of golden bells" is heard when she walks due to the bell ornaments hanging on her body. Other embellishments on Tinkerbell include her body tattoos which outline the map to Neverland, a steampunk butterfly on her arm, and a watch necklace to ward off Captain Hook.
In this scene she has perched herself on a compact mirror on a dresser in the bedroom where Wendy is sleeping. The compact mirror is nestled in a fine silk scarf. A vain fairy, she tries to examine her reflection in the mirror, but first, she looks up to adjust her lamp.

Incredibly unique -- and yet it fits so well with anyone who knows anything about Tinkerbell's background as a tinker-fairy!
