Description As the trailer approached the cabins and barn Robyn smiled. Today she would be in charge of taking three of their tokotas and two other tokotas out on a hunt. They would be caring for Kunik and Baby Doll for a little while, acclimating them to other handlers, tokotas, sites and smells. Both Kunik and Baby Doll had seemed like excellent candidates to bring in. Kunik was a black roan female, who was fond of cuddling according to her owner, if a bit shy around new people or tokotas – a very good reason to give her a safe environment to learn that such things were not so bad. Baby Doll was also very gentle, but more curious then Kunik so she would probably lead the way in greeting the three other tokotas on the hunt. Baby Doll's owner had mentioned that the young yeti female tended to follow her mother around so learning to work with other tokotas and not relying on mom was their goal for her.

Robyn planned on bringing Song of course, the graying rain-marked female had the sweetest personality and demeanor that Robyn had ever had the pleasure to work with. Willow, their barred yeti female would also be coming along, more for learning purposes as the young tokota had not been on too many hunts yet. Last but not least Robyn would be riding Zavala. She trusted the older, creamy female to take on a motherly, but watchful role for the others, and she had the most expertise hunting,  there could be worse role models. Robyn would also be relying on Zavala's protective nature to warn her if there was any trouble.

She went out to greet the trailer, waving and smiling as it pulled up in front of the barns. Baby Doll was out first with only a little coaxing, curious and eager to stretch her legs. Kunik took a little more convincing, but her owner being there with the promise of a treat finally convinced the roan female it was alright to come out. The owner took time to make sure both Kunik and Baby Doll behaved well with Robyn and that they were both comfortably situated in the barn before quietly leaving as the two tokotas enjoyed a snack.

After a bit of rest and a chance to look around and stretch their legs she gathered up supplies as well as the other tokotas. Once she was aboard Zavala she allowed her tokota to do all the work of meeting and greeting Kunik and Baby Doll. Sometimes she wondered exactly how Zavala did it.

“Hello young ones” Zavala thought to the new tokotas, she recognized they were new because of the way they smelled and the way they acted and how Robyn was acting around them. She knew Robyn was likely counting on her to assure the new ones and Robyn had told her all about the hunt they were going on this afternoon with some new tokotas so she had put two and two together.

“I am Zavala. This is Robyn. I know this is all new and maybe a little bit scary. You probably smell a lot of strange things, well there are about twenty of us who make homes here, but its okay, they know better then to mess with Big Mama – that's me by the way. I can tell you that Robyn and the others are good owners, so do not worry about them either. What are your names?”

“My human calls me Baby Doll” the yeti piped up, her eyes glittering. “I like all the new things, I want to look at all of them” her tail wagged. “Oh and miss not talking over there is called Kunik.”
Kunik, glanced up, surprised, and looked as though she were about to say something, and paused as she opened her mouth, then closed it shut again with a snap and glanced down shyly.
“It's alright Kunik.” Zavala soothed “Look, Robyn wants us to go hunting. I think it will be fun and you will not have to talk much. And Baby Doll if you come you can see more of the land and get to know me and the others.”  She motioned to the others who piped up with their names on cue. “I am Song.” “My name's Willow.”

“I would love to come!” Baby Doll barked enthusiastically. Kunik looked a bit wary but slowly nodded. Zavala guessed the roan did not want to be left alone with no one she knew by her side.

“Alright then, let's move out. We're burning daylight just standing here talking.”
Zavala turned, and Robyn patted the tokota's neck. Whatever the tokota did it must have worked because as the creamy tokota led the way Song, Willow, Baby Doll, and most importantly Kunik all followed her lead.

After the tokotas had gotten a sufficient distance away from the barns and cabins they started looking for signs of prey. Zavala had taken the back of the pack, watching over them. Willow and Baby Doll led the fray, Baby Doll was sticking close to Willow's side, likely because Willow was also a yeti and to Baby Doll another yeti meant safety. Song was to the right of the pair, and Kunik kept farther back and to the left, though Zavala did not ever let her lag too far behind.

Soon Willow had scented a bear, and she barked her discovery to the rest, her tail wagging eagerly. Robyn smiled, it looked like they might have a short hunt today, but that suited her just fine.

Zavala became more guarded as they got closer to their prey, her senses on high alert, and as the most experienced of the group she moved most silently picking her way over twigs, and easing her body past bushes.

So when the sound of a branch cracking under a heavy weight echoed in Robyn's ears she knew they had to be very close to the bear now. She still could not see it, but there was a patch of bushes up a head thronged with trees. They were in a deeper part of the woods now, and if her guess was correct the bear would be just beyond those bushes.

“Everybody halt” Zavala's mental voice commanded sharply. Instantly Song, Willow, and Kunik halted, frozen in place. Baby Doll took a few more steps, peeking her nose through the bush, and she let out a low growl as she saw there in a small clearing, a brown colored bear. The bear's head snapped up at the sound, on the alert, its beady black eyes searching for the source, and its small round ears swiveled from side to side. Baby Doll had withdrawn from the bush, her ears back, and if you could have seen her eyes underneath her tan colored bang they would have been round with fear.

“I said halt” Zavala hissed, her ears back as well, though not with fear but displeasure at being disobeyed. Seeing the young yeti's obvious fear softened the creamy tokota's anger though and she sighed. “Its alright. I think the bear did not see you. Next time perhaps you listen to me hmm?”
Baby Doll nodded, swallowing hard, she had never hunted without her mother around and she was not used to listening to other tokotas, and her curiosity had also gotten the better of her.

“Alright. Willow, you will go in first, you are the distraction, remember to stay well away from it's paws, and if it charges, just run. You have the stamina to outrun it, and we'll distract it if that happens anyway. Song, you will be following Willow, you are going to be attacking its back legs whenever you can, Kunik you will be helping her. Baby Doll” Zavala paused, thinking for moment. “You will also be attacking it, but you will be trying to go for the front paws, do not worry if you can not get any attacks in, its more important that you avoid getting injured. I will be going for the neck when the bear is worn down. Protect yourselves, but remember we have Robyn with us, so I will run away from the bear as well if it tries to attack her. Everybody got that?”

They all nodded. “Alright then, lets move out.” Willow sprang into action, bursting through the bushes, and barking loudly at the bear who looked rather startled to see a tokota come bounding at him.
Letting out a snarl the bear tried to swipe at the barred yeti with his front paw, showing his teeth, and his eyes narrowed.

Song bolted out from cover, and swung in to bite the bear's back left paw. The bear roared in pain and reared up, using both its front paws to try and attack Song who moved deftly out of the way while Willow came in close, snapping at the bear and barking again, dancing just out of range of its claws. With a frustrated growl the bear went back on all fours and lumbered after Willow. Baby Doll and Kunik took that as their cue, rushing out, Kunik running along side Song, while Baby Doll moved to the front, and the pair nipped at the bear's back legs again.

Zavala came out of hiding slowly, making herself appear small, she wanted the young ones to forget she was there, to take on the bear as much as they could themselves. If any of them got in trouble she would be at their side in an instant, but for now she watched and waited.

As a quartet the young females wore the bear out as it roared, snarled, grunted, and tried to defend itself, blood starting to flow from it hind legs where Song and Kunik had been biting it, and its tongue lolled out of its mouth as it ran, trying to attack first Willow then trying to turn on Song or Kunik only to get Baby Doll's teeth on his shoulder.

Eventually the bear refused to move, rearing up to try and protect its neck while the four females zoomed in and out, biting, nipping, scratching away.

Zavala knew it was time for her to make her move. Robyn hung on to the tokota tightly, recognizing the way the creamy female gathered herself up, knowing that Zavala would soon be finishing this.

She streaked across the ground like a bolt of lighting, and she leapt for the bear's jugular, her mass limiting her height, but it was enough. Her teeth sank into the fleshy neck, bearing down hard. The bear tried to roar, the sound coming out in a gurgle, its paws swinging forward as it crashed to the ground, the other four females continuing to bite at its legs, then Willow jumped atop the falling bear, her teeth chomping down on the back of the bear's neck, Zavala scrambling away from the flailing paws.

Willow held her grip until the bear stopped shuddering, the blood pooling around the bear's neck, and soaking into the earth.

Zavala lifted her blood stained muzzle to the sky and gave a brief howl, thanking the bear spirit for giving up its life for them, the rest following suit. A chill went down Robyn's spine, she would never get over that sound's eeriness.

Proudly Zavala nuzzled each of the tokotas, and Kunik stood even with the rest, not even trembling as Zavala nuzzled her. Robyn smiled to herself, shy as Kunik might be the roan's instincts were overriding that now,  and hopefully later when Kunik was on her own she would remember the thrill of working together with the group, and the praise of a hunt well done would echo in her ears.

Robyn also praised the five tokotas, telling them how well they had fought and come together to beat a common foe. Now it was time to get this bear back home. Without Zavala or Robyn saying a word the four youngsters each took up a paw, bearing the weight between them.

Robyn might have considered that the end of the hunt, except on the way back a bush rustled, and the excitement of the hunt combined with her curiosity made Baby Doll drop her bear paw, tail wagging eagerly, was that something else for them to hunt?

Zavala barked sharply, but Baby Doll had to see what was making the sound. Bounding into the bushes she found herself face to face with a skunk. She skidded to a stop, but it was too late, the skunk sprayed in fear of the large predator, and Baby Doll yelped and skittered away, her eyes stinging, and her sensitive nose was filled with the scent.

The other tokotas visibly recoiled as the yeti came out of the bushes, head low, and Robyn could practically see the stink lines coming off of the yeti and she groaned at the thought of cleaning all that hair of the stench.

Now Zavala was unhappy, and she growled “You stupid pup, look what you did. Stay in the back, do not go near the bear. I do not want my meat smelling of skunk.”

Head bowed Baby Doll dropped to the back of the group, Willow moving to take the extra paw and the party marched home, though now much of the excitement. Storing the bear Robyn let everyone but Baby Doll go eat, they had earned it.

Sighing, she got the tub, and all the cans of tomato juice, and tokota shampoo she could find. Neither she or Baby Doll would be eating until the yeti was clean.

Jaime joined her shortly after she had started, having smelled the tokota from the barn, he had gone out and bought more tomato juice along with latex gloves and disposable towels. Robyn shot him a grateful look and together they worked as the sun set, their fingertips quickly becoming wrinkled as they washed and rewashed the tokota, spreading the tomato juice through the fur, rinsing and repeating the process until their arms grew numb.

Drying off the yeti Robyn sniffed at the pup's fur. She smiled tiredly, no more skunk smell. Finally she let the tokota go and eat, and she just sat there a moment, her eyes closing and she felt a wave of dizziness pass over her as her stomach growled loudly.

Jaime had already risen and she looked up to see him offering a hand to her. Gratefully she grasped it, “The bear” she said softly, suddenly remembering they still needed to skin, and prep the bear for storage. Jaime shook his head. “You need to eat. I will get one of the others help me.” He shooed her inside.

“Thanks Jaime, I appreciate it.”

“That's what I'm here for. And hey, look on the bright side, at least the hunt was successful.”
