Description Hmm, I told you all were going to see the colored version, well, what do you think? did it come out close to what you expected? is it AMAZING? comment!

I liked doing it a little bit...except I had to rush through it, so it's 1:46AM right now and I'm fairly sleepy.

Compare it to my last version! [link]

allrighty, I'm going to finish doing some other things. God bless everyone,

download if you want to see full resolution. (c) me.

For :gimmefeedback:'ers

How was my shading? Was there any unneeded details? Which would look better on this, Cel Shading, or soft shading/gradients? How does this look compared to the paper version of this?

NOTE: Paper hand-drawn version can be found here [link]

I like it, very simple and purdy
The use of colors is very Spring-y

lol, yeah I tried to choose spring colors that would be pleasant and good to look at.

I didn't do the best job, but I know I could've done better with enough time on my hands and a lot of practice.

It looks good, but it could use some more shading on the leaves.
Also be careful with the lighting, because you can't tell from what angle it's coming from.

Oh, yes, I understand with shading, but I've never exactly learned how to use cel shading on a computer, or practiced it that much, or none at all.

As to Lightning- I did not think of lightning when I made the paper hand-drawn version of this, but I do see your point, I know there is no light source, or you can't tell where it comes from.

Thank you so much for the feedback! I really really truly appreciate it.

I think this would be better off with a cell/ vector (I think that's what it is) shading to keep the sharp style that is already prominent. The idea is very interesting, but it doesn't really jump out at me. Everything is fairly centered, and it takes away from some of the fun you can have with plants. They rarely grow straight, so have fun with the curls and twists they do! Also remember that plants interact with everything around them, so some more interaction would help in this one.

Wow, I love the feedback, thank you a lot. I don't exactly know how to cel shade on the computer that well, afterall I wasn't taught how to cell shade, but I'll try looking at tutorials and trying it out on my works of art. Yes, I do see your point with interaction I can imagine it in my head, the plants curling around poles and fences.

Remember, Spring, the time for all plants to bloom, to rebirth, to show their true beauty, relate that theme to this and you'll see what I was trying to imagine.

Thank you so much for the feedback! I really really truly appreciate it.

You're welcome! I don't believe I've every tried cell shading either. I've selected areas with the lasso and filled them with the bucket! I really love how the plants were coming out of the bean! And you are very, very welcome!

Ahh, yes, someone talked to me about that. use the lasso tool and use the bucket to create cell shading? does that work well in Illustrator CS4? or is it good for PS CS4?

Wheatart In reply to Issun-mini [2009-11-04 04:45:30 +0000 UTC]

Well, I don't know about those specific programs (I use Adobe Fireworks CS3), but when you do it, see if anti-alias or hard or other options look better. That determines the edge of your fill tool.

i like how all of the plants are coming out of one seed

yeah I know, imagine a real bean in action doing this...

y'know that kid's story about the dude with the special bean that grew a very large tree and had to cut it because the giant wanted to eat him? that's kind of what I thought of when I made this, but spring is all about re-birth, regrowth of nature, and of course, who can forget about April Fool's.

hehe, thanks Sushi, I greatly appreciate it.

It may look awesome, but I'm terrible at manually coloring things through the computer, cel shading is chaos for me, I prefer paper and gradient, or soft shading a little better sometimes. though I did try to cel shade the beautiful...red rose. lol

Sushihad In reply to Issun-mini [2009-10-30 22:30:44 +0000 UTC]

you should get into soft shading then if cell you want that gradient

...what, can you rephrase a sentence one more time?...maybe with commas and periods, I can't understand what it says...lol

Sushihad In reply to Issun-mini [2009-10-31 00:06:33 +0000 UTC]

LOL. I FAILED.
I normally don't grammer fail like that XDD

You can try to soft shade to get that gradient you want instead of doing cel shading!

Issun-mini In reply to Sushihad [2009-10-31 00:41:28 +0000 UTC]

lol, yeah I didn't understand a thing in that grammar fail.

oh yes, I love shading on paper, trust me, if you take a look at my school work, whenever I get bored in a class a little, I start linear shading all over the book, on top of words, etc...lol

I do have to find a way to disperse my gradient on computers and see how I can change it and make it look like a "cell shading" gradient!

Sushihad In reply to Issun-mini [2009-10-31 01:28:37 +0000 UTC]

EASY. Select an area with the lasso tool, and use a darker color WHILE with the gradient tool. Then use the gradient tool on the selected area

Hmm...what does that refer to? Photoshop or Illustrator?

Photoshop. But it might work in illustrator, idk
