That turned out rather nice - what HDRI did you use?

Wow, the lighting looks amazing. It's just that kind of lighting and place I would love to be. But I like sun. And wood.Β
BTW, did you have any troubles with render times? I loaded the Iray Library as is and my CPU render took 2 days and 17h to cough up to 41 percent. I wasn't sure if it was due to all the parts I haven't taken time to delete or the complicated lighting.Β

What system do you have. Mine is an i7 3770. 3.4 GHZ I think and your times sound about right for me too. But 41% doesn't mean it hasn't rendered long enough to be fine. I think the settings probably account for mesh lighting. I stopped this one at 52% and rendered in about 14 hours. Don't forget that this has no extra lighting that a photographer would use but instead replies on bounce light which can take a lot longer to clean up in render. You could try turning off Caustics in the render settings and see if that reduces the time.Β

I have an i3, so maybe that's why there is a difference. 41% for me was a very fine edge between "too noisy" and "will do". Plus I was kinda on a deadline, since it was for a contest (PC+ weekly contest over at DAZ forums).Β
Thanks for the tip, I will try it out. Hopefully it will help, 2 days render time is a bit too long for my taste.

I had an old dual core and I had some renders that took 4 days or more to finish. This was before Iray. It is all about your personal situation. Me I am very patient and didn't mind waiting. This next render has been going for 24 hours and getting close to being stopped.

I don't mind overnight renders, but not being able to use my computer for 3 days is a bit of an overkill. Especially if test renders only clean up after half an hour, so even checking and fixing small errors takes a while. It was very annoying when I found that my render of 2 days was having a hand going through an arm. Eq not something easy to fix in photoshop. But I guess I'll have to render it again, should have checked it earlier...

I know and feel your pain. Don't get me wrong I don't like having to wait days but then it was a fact of life. Now with i7 and 16 GB of ram I can render and surf the net no problem so the PC isn't out of commission. Man the times I have seen problems after two days rendering...it did teach me to look harder but I still miss things.
Think of using the Spot render tool, select it and in the Tool Settings Pane click on "New Window" that will enable you to spot render an area and have the render at full size with the area outside the spot render transparent if you save out as a PNG. Then you can overlay that on the full render.Β

Wanted to thank you for the tip about Spot Render. I finally got around to trying it, and it took me only 3h and some change to fix that hand. I didn't even know that option existed!Β
