After Suri Polomare was all but thrown from Manehattan's fashion society following her disastrous move to steal Rarity's designs, Suri found herself incredibly bitter and blaming others for all of her bad fortune. Suri refused to move out of the city, instead staying stubborn and figuring everything would eventually blow over. When it didn't, she ended up in any place that served alcoholic drinks nearly every night, and went on and on to other bar patrons about how Rarity, and later Coco Pommel, had slighted her. Most ignored her, some very aware of her reputation as a thief. But one pony seemed rather sympathetic to her drunk ramblings, having plenty of complaining to do himself. Svengallop and Suri Polomare seemed to have enough in common to drown their sorrows with each other, always cursing the ones who they claim had ruined their life. Rarity for Suri, and Applejack for Sven. Having both been exposed for their bad choices and behavior, they decided that it was more fun to hate on others together rather than alone. What started as socially drinking turned into a rather private and intimate affair, each using the other as a distraction from their own faults and as someone to constantly complain to. Their relationship was hardly romantic, and they could hardly say that they were friends. Neither knew much about the other besides their hate for the friends of Princess Twilight and how well their life was going before "others interfered".

Suri and Svengallop had settled into a routine of sorts by the time that she realized she was pregnant. In her own way, Suri Polomare had grown fond of Sven and assumed the same, figuring that they could continue to mututally hate on others while together and with a child. But apparently, she thought wrong. When she announced her pregnancy to him, the stallion was anything but pleased, instead annoyed at a potential foal following him around and holding him back from becoming what he once was: a successful businessman. He told her that she could either get rid of it or take a hike. Infuriated by his response, and simply to spite him, she declared that she would never get rid of their child and would raise it alone, and Svengallop would be a failure yet again. They broke on extremely harsh terms, Suri never interested in seeing him again. And when Back Stitch was born, and he looked more like his mother than his father, Suri Polomare was more pleased that she hadn't given birth to someone who looked like her ex.

She was true to her word and raised her child alone, sure to not depend on anyone else for assistance. Suri took any work she could get to take care of Back Stitch, and when he was old enough, her son took freelancing work of his own to help keep them afloat. He grew just as skillful as his mother when it came to sewing and embroidery, and at the same time, he seemed to carry the same negative and dark-hearted personality of Suri. Even as a child, Back Stitch regularly made friends, only to find their weaknesses and end up using them to his benefit. Suri Polomare didn't seem to notice. That, or she didn't care about how he was behaving.

Suri Polomare had no intent to be in another relationship, and yet one found her when she least expect it. During a trip to Canterlot, she met well-known interior designer Dandy Grandeur. He was taken aback by her bold personality and her clear inability to care for other's opinions of her. Dandy found her charming, in a rather rough way, especially since she knew how to navigate higher society when it came to fashion and design. He called on her regularly during her visit in Canterlot, hoping to take her out for lunch or coffee or even just a walk. Suri denied him more than once, but eventually decided to give him a chance since he seemed so eager to get to know her. He won her over rather quickly, especially since all he wanted to do was please her. The stallion showered both her and her son with gifts and affection, traveling from Canterlot to their home in Manehattan to surprise them regularly. Back Stitch wasn't sure of him, especially since Suri had reminded him of his horrible father time and time again, but Dandy Grandeur seemed to have Suri fully convinced that he was her chance at being happy, if only because of his wealth and kindness. Had she any friends to talk to about such things, she would have claimed that she was using him so her son would have a good life without worrying about money, but she could hardly admit that she didn't find his affection flattering.

They ended up getting married within a year of meeting, Dandy Grandeur expressing that he didn't wish to draw things out and preferred being upfront about what he wanted out of life. Suri was given nearly complete control when it came to wedding planning, and even if Dandy was extremely interested in helping, he simply wanted to give her everything she wanted. They wed and almost immediately got pregnant, this time a daughter. As always, Dandy pampered his wife and gave Suri everything she asked for. And when she complained that she was too tired from pregnancy to care for Back Stitch, Dandy Grandeur was more than happy to care for his new step-son and spoil him just as much as he had spoiled his mother. Back Stitch grew fonder of him, but never fully seemed to trust. And when Lemon Sour was born, Back Stitch saw her as competition. The two never seemed to get along for longer than a few minutes, and fortunately with such wealth and a father who was wrapped around both of their hooves, they hardly had to deal with being in the same room.
