Where do we learn compassion and empathy? It's in our genetic code (we're social creatures by nature), and yet we need guides in this life to teach us how to love with an open heart. Sometimes we find our teachers in the people closest to us, and sometimes we find them despite those closest to us.

And sometimes, they're underfoot.

This scarlet 12" x 16" painting is part of my original Here Kitty series and features the use of iridescent red, green, and gold oil paint; a variation on the traditional East Asian application of gold leaf in their works of art. Here Kitty #5 is a striking and contemporary fusion of Asian and European styles, creating a sophisticated aesthetic that will enhance any space.
