Description
Dear World,Don't stop reading this just because you think you already know me, or because you don't. Don't neglect to continue based only on my letter's length, or that you and I may have disagreed before this moment. Don't deny me this one despairing opportunity to make you pause, I am begging you! You don't know me as well as you might think, and our disagreements - past, present and future - are momentary interchanges on the twisting road to wisdom. Continue, I dare, and say that if nothing more, you tried to understand.
Beyond us are stars that are born, raging into life with terrible beauty, and die with thunderous report before we even know of their existence. For every answer we believe, there are a thousand reasons to doubt it and a thousand more questions to be asked. I know, I know, you have an opinion on that claim; that's why I like you. Just keep in mind that in order to keep up, you are going to have to challenge everything.
I am going to tell you three things about myself and one of them will be the truth while two others are going to be a lie. First, allow a brief concession to my ego by claiming that I am a self-styled author. Of course, a small requirement of believing that is a fairly warped sense of the word "I". Second, I am average, at best, at almost everything I try to do. Third, I am a man. This time we'll shift our critical gaze toward the word "Third". Okay, to be fair I did just warn you about challenging everything. Of course, you already knew that me beginning this letter with 'Dear World' told you something about me; who does that? Second, in the very first sentence you knew that I wanted you to read all of this, and that tells you something about me as well. Third? Okay, so you get it.
You are my beloved kin; souls alike behind the veil of difference. I'm begging you not to give up on me. This is the message, and I've scrawled it on many mediums. We have come so far and there is so much more still to do. Thousands of years have led us down a long, tumultuous road, but we are closer now than we have ever been. Don't believe a soul who claims they can tell you what's over the next hill, but for the love of all you hold dear, don't stop walking. That's what I want you to challenge because like it or not, one day you're going to ask yourself why you keep going. If you've already answered that question once, you should probably challenge the answer again. Don't stop asking questions and never cease to challenge your beliefs. I haven't given up on you.
Ever notice how the central saviors of our faiths never claim personal authorship of the books we use to know them better? It's frustrating looking through the lens of interpretation, but it's irresponsible to stop examining the subject. For example, if you've read this far, I know something more about you. I know there's something in you that recognizes the fact that there's more than one meaning to this confession. I hope you've considered it and if you haven't, trying reading it all one more time. This is more than religion, to be certain. This is about us. I'm quite certain I don't agree with you, but I promise I'll try to understand better. Don't give up on me. It's a scientific fact that we have more in common than not, you and I.
Yours, Truly,
George
