She's quiet for a moment to linger in a space that is only theirs, counting the beats of a heart that sings for the family she has made. This is not where she ever thought she would be-- even ever could be. Deborah laughs at the mental image of her Anam Cara running alongside a miniatured version of him and toddling through woodlands with a bull elk's antler.

In truth she knew barely any details about Babylon's first child and only a hair more about the boy's mother (the first healer he loved, she is convinced the old Mage has a type). She knew he'd been angrier in his youth that she thought him capable of now. A fire that could've matched her own in younger years though now they're both embers of who they were. Tempered, even, still warm but more like the hearth of an old and loved home than the hungry flames of a forest fire.

She has never pressed for more than he was willing to give. Those were his memories and the old Cleric long ago accepted a few moments of silence for years gone as a part of him to love with a gentler hand than the rest. Babylon was so loud sharing other parts of himself with her, after all. Deborah could accept there were some chapters he perhaps read quieter or only in his head.

The wave of nausea had passed in the story, her mind finally preoccupied enough to give her peace from symptoms she had attributed to just getting old. Soon it will be even more preoccupied. The sleeping pup-- their sleeping pup-- mumbles a few groggy sounds as their memory recounts the games played and stories head throughout their day and Deborah wonders if they have also found an antler in the ethereal realm of dreams and are dragging it through the a field with their father the way their elder brother once had.

Perhaps she'll ask Serren to have the Harvesters keep an eye out for one in the coming days and surprise them both with it, and seals the unspoken promise with a soft touch to Foxwood's forehead. She wants to do good by them, to make sure they don't feel replaced and make this time special for them.

"...Ah. Kiddo fell asleep. They would've liked that story... they would've liked Eli too, I think..." She doesn't tell him that she likes Eli, too. He was a part of Babylon that doesn't belong to Deborah but she treasures the wolf his father became because of him nonetheless.

She hums with laughter knowing one of the first things Fox would do upon waking was ask how the story ended. "You'll have plenty of more chances." Deborah says vaguely. She speaks of opportunities the pups' father can define for himself once they've been born, and leaves a kiss on his smiling cheek. It may not be the Mhorian way to keep secrets, but she thinks Rowena and the spirits could forgive her this once.

Babylon cranes his head to be closer with her and seconds past in his soft embrace. It's a moment she would like to last forever but she has to ruin it now if they're to move on to even better ones. "In fact," a warm and mischievous glint flashes in her eyes, enjoying the silly drama of the reveal, "Pretty soon you'll have plenty of more ears listening too." Deborah will never forget how Babylon's face had lit up before the realization could have even settled. It will be the first story she tells them after they've learned to listen to anything more than the sounds of her body. Everyday until she knows for sure they knew how much their father loved them before they were even born.
